I'm sure you can find an opinion piece that use anecdotes to tell you what you want to hear, but that too doesn't change the fact that statistically Florida, the state governed by Ron DeSantis, has the #1 rated education system in the nation. I can tell that you really, really don't want that fact to be reality but it is real. Statistically Florida has the #1 rated education system in the nation.

I honestly wonder if you are even capable of absorbing this fact that has been presented to you over and over and over as you continue to claim the opposite.

Florida has the 8th lowest average SAT score by state.

They are 25th in the nation with just 33.2% of their population attaining a four year college degree or greater. I’m sure they’re just sitting on that great high school education they received though.

Frankly, I don’t give a damn about your stats. I’m pissed at what DeSantis is doing per higher education at public institutions of learning in Florida. Now. At THIS time. And I posted several articles that expressed the deep concerns many have regarding those changes. Yes, I was an instructor for a spell. At an institution of higher learning. History. I viewed higher education as a goal all unto itself. That LEARNING was a most worthy goal unto itself. That KNOWLEDGE was a noble thing, a higher goal. I brought that very idealism into every classroom I entered. Into every class I taught. DeSantis is about control. DeSantis is about the destruction of “woke” in the classroom. I care about what’s going on now, regarding academic freedom, and attacks on same, in Florida, and elsewhere censorship and control want to restrict academic freedom.

This is the core of the disconnect between the way you and I view things. I do not believe knowledge that promotes bigotry is a noble thing. There used to be a JF poster named DutchJazzer who used to constantly post statistics and incidents. Was DutchJazzer noble for doing that? It was knowledge. I don't think it was a noble thing because DutchJazzer was a racist using selected history and his particular lens on current events to push his racist views.

I do not subscribe to your view that all knowledge is a noble thing. I see some as quite ignoble. That isn't to say I want to see most ignoble stuff banned but there is a difference between letting you purchase Mein Kampf if you want to, and forcing me to purchase Mein Kampf. That is what the spending of tax dollars is. These books you claim are banned aren't actually banned and you know it. What you are upset over is DeSantis not forcing the people of Florida through taxation to purchase books that promote hate. As you pointed out, it isn't the effectiveness of learning that has you upset.

It isn't knowledge and educating the people. It is the lack of hate-promoting material being purchased by the Florida taxpayers that you take issue with. Why? What benefit is it to broader society if there is more hate? Why should taxpayers subsidize and foster it?

He has no stats. No one considers Florida the best state for education in the country. That, by virtually every real source, goes to NJ, Massachusetts and Connecticut in no particular order, almost every year.

The US News rankings are based on self-reporting and easy to manipulate, they don't have to be bought.. A few of the upper tier universities are refusing to cooperate.

It comprises metrics reflecting the share of citizens in each state holding college degrees, as well as college graduation rates, the cost of in-state tuition and fees, and the burden of debt that college graduates carry.

Nothing about research dollars, advanced degrees, etc. The ranking is based on being cheap for students.

I could easily write 500 words on everything that is wrong with that statement, from the confusion of knowledge with anecdotes and data, to the source of bigotry and the mechanisms used to support it, and on to rebutting that the restricted books promote bigotry. It's that mis-guided.

If you disagree and believe knowledge that promotes bigotry is a noble thing and were a fan of DutchJazzer, I'll read your argument but it is doubtful you'll sway my opinion on it.

There’s a lot of projection in these ads. I think there’s a good amount of incels who are closer gays. I’d guess a disproportionate amount of DeSantis’s campaign folks are self-loathing LGBTs. Just like how the loudest anti-LGBT folks in America are usually just self-loathing closet gays. *cough Benny Johnson and Michael Knowles cough*.

This is what happens when there are no new ideas. We no longer have politicians concerned about coming up with new ideas. They are content to rile up their hornets nest base with old and angry news since that drives the vote. We could have the very best idea for a new way to handle health care the world has ever seen, but it will be beaten soundly by the first few soundbites of Trump pwning the libs and socialism LGBT fear-mongering. The general ignorance of the electorate will destroy this country yet.
 
Doesn’t sound like his campaign is doing so hot. Polls show him losing support to Tim Scott, Haley, and Christie. This has triggered a bunch of staff firings. Not sure if this’ll actually improve his campaign or not.

In Utah at the state Capitol he talked about how slavery was beneficial for the enslaved. Cuz enslaved people learned how to become blacksmiths or something. Did iron forging not exist in Africa or something? If slavery is so awesome, why don’t we enslave a bunch of poor rural communities in the rust belt? I have some weeds in my lawn that need to be pulled out. Plenty of farming and construction work in Utah. Why not just enslave some people and teach them some skills?

And then just the other day his speech writer created and then retweeted a video with a Nazi sonnenrad with shock troops marching towards it. So a pretty clear nod to nazism, which I’ve been told by woke people is bad or something…
