What's new

The Non-Jazz NBA Thread in the Jazz Section

Man, you doing life wrong. Sometimes there are bigger things than championships. One of them is being the flyest guy in the league. That's what's up.
Eh, no you're just wrong.

About the championship part. He's totally fly. But watching a millionaire playing a child's game and looking good doing it does nothing for me. It's all about the ring baby.

Players don't just agree to that in most cases
Yes i agree with you. But where are we now? not good enough, not bad enough. We have to make some smart moves or i'm not sure Lauri will extend. A lot of people here were laughing about Minny and say they were on the disaster track..actually they are much closer than us to be really good.

Jordan Poole experience is gonna be wild in DC (first game was against non-NBA team)

Add Kuzma with his need for attention and tendency for tunnel vision and we can predict exactly what the Wizards are going to be.

Kuzma is a 45/34/72 career shooter with high usage.
Poole is a 42/34/88 career shooter with high usage.
No one else gets the ball unless those two are sipping Prime on the bench.

Probably all the fans who love self-creation and flashes are gonna rave about their big nights, while the team skids towards #1 lottery odds.

I think the plan was to tank but Lauri was just too good. He legit would have had to sit out like half the season. It just wasn’t feasible unless we traded him.

I think if we did whatever we did for the last 20 games for the entire year we might have had a shot at wemby.

Yeah I watched Poole that last game. It was like watching THT at his absolute worst with less self awareness

Chet and Wemby both had amazing pre-seasons. Go look at their per 36 and advanced stats, they are ridiculous. I'll post them later when I'm at a computer, but man they are both super talented.
Yep. I have been very impressed with their stats. Wemby with 5 blocks in 21 minutes last night. (had 19 points too)

Wemby is going to be good enough to make the Spurs a playoff contender if he plays enough games. Vassell is nasty too.

At least the Jazz matchup well with the Spurs moving forward.

I think having both Lauri and Kessler to contain Wemby will be huge for us. This could turn into a legit rivalry if both teams are successful in building around their core.

Wemby things I've been impressed by in preseason:

- Excellent spatial awareness. That's huge for a 7'4'' guy who's going to be spending a lot of time with the ball. Wemby seems to have a natural talent for sensing how the other 9 players move around the court and how long they'll take getting from A to B. He's going to be doubled a ton in his career, so finding the open guy quickly is a critical skill. He's already surprisingly good at it.
- Patience guarding the rim. Like Kessler, it's tough to get him off his feet with fakes. He's so big and long, he doesn't have to anticipate anything. He can just react.
- Even-keeled demeanor. That's going to serve Wemby well, as he'll have a target on his back from day 1 and guys will be trying to get under his skin.

Things I'm still skeptical about:

- Shooting. It's all over the place, and that's putting it kindly. Wemby takes tons of tough, long 2's off the dribble, often fading away, and that's probably the worst, most inefficient NBA shot for him when you consider his physical profile. Still, bad shot selection is typical for most rookies. He's a smart guy, so he'll improve soon enough. (Complicating matters is the fact that he's "open" every time he gets the ball because he can shoot over everybody.)
- Ability to play through contact. Considering he's a stick figure, Wemby is surprisingly willing to mix it up, but he can't do anything about his sky-high center of gravity. He's done a lot of falling on his *** after going to the bucket in the preseason, and it'll only get worse when the real games start.
- Health. Remains to be seen.
