The Non-Jazz NBA Thread in the Jazz Section

Way too early for any lessons, like worst case scenario would be that they ball out and earn a huge pay check and then their character issues become a problem.

(I'm not necessarily saying either of them had character issues that I find unacceptable, in fact I wanted the Jazz to draft both of them)
There are wins in the character column historically as well but yeah we need to see how this all works over time. I also wonder if these guys getting some humble pie on draft night has helped them a bit.

Harden has been decent for The Clippers this season which is nice to see as I like watching his game. Wondering if they try to improve as their window is small; oldest team in the league and most of their stars are 33+.

lmao at decent

The thing with GG is that the whole weed in the locker-room story was just an unprecedented level of audacity and stupidity that it was kind of hard to ignore.

Not that weed is some crazy bad thing, but just the audacity to smoke weed in a NBA locker-room after you quit a workout that was too hard.

The saving grace with GG is that he seemed extremely likeable and humble in interviews.

Cam seemed like the opposite. Maybe not unlikeable, but you can definitely tell he had an ego and might be a guy who is tough to coach. And then there was the whole rumor that his college coach was sabotaging him in interviews with teams, which is also unprecedented

Maybe the lesson is you should mostly ignore character concerns unless they are criminal in nature.

Far too early to be judging character. At the moment these guys are relatively speaking nobodies who are having to earn every minute, lets see what their character is like once they establish themselves. Thats when the headaches begin, will be they be good enough players to justify any potential headaches.

Or will the 18 year old who has a good attitude already simply mature and not cause any headaches in the first place?

The story wasn't even that he smoked weed in the locker room but rather hit a vape pen when he was changing after the workout.

That can happen with anyone. The post is you can't really judges someone's character in a short time without knowing them

Meh, we all do this all of the time, especially in a professional capacity. If I bugged out halfway through a job interview to rip a bong in the company bathroom, I'm probably not getting that job and it would be entirely on me no matter how qualified I was otherwise.

You try to do it. It's not going to be accurate.

Possibly, but there iare times and places where it is necessary to give a damn. If you can't do it then, nobody will trust you to do it the next time. It's not unfair.
I understand you have to try. But the reality is people can hide who they are or you can misread something, or they can just be 18 year olds who aren't mature yet.

Point is, it's very inaccurate

Sure but I look at Whitmore in particular and if everything they say about his character is true then do you want a guy who shoots 23.9 time per 100 possessions with 0.9 assist and very little defense to go with it?
