The Non-Jazz NBA Thread in the Jazz Section

Truthfully, this game 3 was really bad from Gobert. Dallas didnt shy away from going at him on the perimeter and he was really off his game. No deflections and I bet when the tracking stats come up he had an abysmal DFG%.

The extended benching of Gobert in the 3rd and 4th is not fun if you are a fan of the guy, but its likely gonna sow a seed of negativity for their offseason (at least when it comes to media narrative). I think Finch should have stuck with Rudy.... but he instead opted to throw fuel on a fire.

In the bigger picture its obvious why Minny is losing this series and that has nothing to do with Gobert. Dallas has had not only the best player on the court, but the two best players. No one on Wolves can guard or even properly influence Luka/Kyrie, but on the other end Ant isnt beating his guy consistently while KAT is either laying bricks or just bulldozing into idiotic off balance layups.

Mavs with their current starting lineup are now 26-5. They quietly became the best team in the league at the trade deadline and hardly anyone noticed.

Its amazing how well Dallas runs PnR with all possible combinations of Kyrie/Luka/Lively/Gafford. Minnesota hasnt had any answer to that defensively.

Dallas offense is so simple, yet so effective. When they play against a fully set half court defense its either iso, PnR or drive and kick really. Screw all those GSW type ball rotations and complex actions. Just get the primary defender on your hip and make the correct read.

Yeah I have been really impressed by them. I was the biggest doubter of Luka/Kyrie combo and it seemed validated last year as it looked like they are just taking turns in iso ball... but after adding Lively and Gafford their PnR has been so deadly. Also PJ Washington and Derrick Jones complementary two way play should not be forgotten.

Are you going to win a series when your starting center gets outrebounded by half of the players on the court including guards?

The answer to your question here is yes. If towns and Edwards just play kinda decent

After doing some reflection, I’m glad Minnesota made a run to the WCF (likely peaking) this year. The off year we don’t own their pick. It bodes well for us going forward.

A long playoff run then the Olympics for Ant and Rudy could have them a little burnt out to start the season. The road gets harder and more expensive from here.
