The Non-Jazz NBA Thread in the Jazz Section

He did have a team option that would have paid him $2M....but IIRC, had they exercised that team option he would have been unrestricted the following year so they just gave him the money now. Jokic had the same thing....second round contract stuff.
Herb did something similar. It gets them an extra discount per year for sure. Smart business on both sides for that one.

So, I think Walker might actually be asking for the moon. He either gets the moon from the Jazz, or it might precipitate him getting moved (maybe to the Lakers) which he probably wants, given all of the nonsense the Jazz have been doing.

I guess I hope this is the case as cope for the Jazz most likely just completely fumbling this.
I think the Jazz didn't negotiate and didn't really make an offer in good faith. Like I think they made an offer to simply say they made an offer and then walked away. The cap space is only one of the reasons. They aren't sure on Walker is ummm... my theory. My guess is simply... the Jazz would do it at 20 per year which is high. I think Walk would settle in around 30M which might be a touch high on an extension... but that his initial ask may have been around 35M (guys generally start high).

I don't think we ever really tried to find what the real acceptable middle ground was. If he improves his passing a bit, keeps his block and Oreb rates high again, and maybe gets his FT shooting in the mid 60s I think he will have a good enough year to get in that 35M ballpark. If the Lakers come calling with a 3+1 at 35Mish range and Walker's team says "don't match it" are we going to match? I just think cap space is a total farce and retaining your best young players should be a priority... but I guess that's why I'm not a gm?

It's interesting that Duren is not expected to reach an extension either.
He kinda sucks. Like if you listen to Pistons fans talk about him he is pretty empty calories. He has some interesting things but the defense isn't really good. Like I think Walker is quite a bit better.

The Sharpe extension is getting the NBA twitter approval but... like... is he good? Its one I could see going either way. The shooting has been great and he's not a defender even though you'd think he has the attributes to be one.

I bet Braun and Daniels end up getting done.

He's a pretty good offensive player/rebounder....but he doesn't defend.

Yeah... I think because he doesn't stretch the floor and doesn't anchor a defense some of the Pistons fans are luke warm or cold on him. I think 15-20M per would be the range that is fair for him and he's likely got much bigger eyes.

I guess I didn't know the local read on him. I was surprised something didn't get done because Duren is a guy that's long been glazed by national media. Quick search shows that Duren's asking price is way higher than Kessler's.

It may or may not be right but I get the feeling he is kind of a cat chasing a laser pointer. Offensive oriented bigs who can't shoot have to be like Sabonis, Sengun good to get the big $$$$
