I just watched Kings destroy Cavs and the game was not as close as the score. Mobley is so mechanical offensively and Don looks about as checked out as he did here 2 years ago. The Kings kept attacking Garland who might be nearly as bad a defender as Sexton. Sabonis was having his way pushing around Mobley and Allen to get to his spots.

Who knows if they can right the ship before they are potentially forced to deal Don. If Jazz are going to end up with any lottery pick(s) down the line from those 2 big trades they will likely be coming from Cleveland.

Yup. Without Donovan they're going to struggle offensively. They'll rely an awful lot on Garland to create for everyone.

Don play quite well for them. But they have many issues. Garland is so bad in defense and not very good in offense too. Won't be surprised if Don is moved next year.

Jazz couldn’t make it work with two non-shooting bigs (Gobert/Favors). They restructured the team and ended up with an undersized backcourt that was a liability on defense (Don/Mike). For some reason the Cavs are intent on combining both of these mistakes at the same time.

I doubt the are intent on it, it just happened to be what they had. In general you want to go with the most talent, not the best fit.

They could have seen it coming, certainly the backcourt issue when they traded for Don. I guess the thinking was that their defensive bigs would compensate for their poor defensive backcourt and that Mobley would become a better shooter (which he still may do).

Donovan hasnt been bad on D this year so far tho....

THey will get better. THey were really good last year and they have a better team this year.

I expect they will be. Though from a selfishly Jazz perspective I hope we’re seeing the cracks that will lead to them crumbling and falling apart.

They wont crumble. They will probably trade Donovan next year and they will have Mobley/Garland, who are two great players. They can easily just make a couple of trades and set themselves up to be a very good team long-term.

These picks are going to be mid tier picks from the Wolves/Cavs.

Look.. the one thing we know for sure is Minny and Cleveland eventually crumble. I kid... kind of.


Both teams do appear setup for more success and failure for sure. Teams don't give out that amount of draft capital unless they feel great long term... but **** happens so betting on things going south at some point has real value over the long-term. I think the Cavs picks have more juice than the Wolves picks but that's because I believe in Edwards more than Mobley/Garland and he's there long term.

Basically imo... saying they are definitely mid tier picks is just as much flawed as thinking they will be lotto picks. They are completely open ended and subject to randomness... the NBA is full of randomness.

Nothing is completely random. You have great players and no reason to want to lose, you are probably not going to lose.

Did I say it was completely random? Every team is open and subject to randomness... some less susceptible than others. What will inevitably happen if the picks become top7-8 picks is those declaring the picks to be mid to late picks will say "well I didn't think Ant would tear his achilles" or "I didn't think Mobley would regress and the returns for Don on a 1 year deal were bad". It works both ways obviously but projecting a pick to be mid, high, or low 1-5 years out is silly.
