What's new

-the official Alec Burks PG thread-

Burks is alright, and he may stick in this league. He's not in the same universe as Westbrook or Wade though.

He's been averaging 19 minutes per game since December 23rd, and in that time period is shooting 39% (.515 TS%) and averaging 7.3 points 2.3 rebounds and 1.7 assists.

Over the last 9 games, he's been averaging 23.6 minutes, and in that time period shooting 42% (although a blistering .580 TS% because of the 3s and free throws) and averaging 8.6 points, 2.2 rebounds and 2.3 assists.

The TS% is all that's really relevant. The fact he has been doing most his damage from three is desirable actually. Burks has still not seen a consistent stretch where he can play his natural position. Since Dec 23 its been almost all PG duty, where he is clearly instructed to throw the ball to Al and not even look for a shot or opening. He got to play SG mostly last night, and the boost in production was obvious. 24 points in 27 minutes not too shabby eh?

Corey Maggette: that's the type of game Alec has (or can mature into). He obviously needs to get better at finishing, but that will come...if he continues to get PT. If I were coach, I'd bring Burks in for Foye about halfway through the 1st quarter at SG. Then Alec slides over to PG at the quarter break. That matches him up against the opposing sub when he's at the point.

The real problem is that we simply don't know how good Burks, Favors and Kanter can be until Corbin takes the training wheels off. I hope these latest uninspired losses convince Kevin O'Lindsey (and Greg and Gail Miller) that changes MUST be made.

Allowed? Why should a guy shooting so poorly be taking so many shots while he's on the floor? How many shots do you think Hayward, Al and Millsap take per minute?

Of the regulars (that is, all players except Evans and Murphy), Alec is 10th in TS% and 7th in FGA/minute.

As i said, hard to get a rhythm if you are scared to shoot. Whens the last time Al or Paul played 8 mins for chucking up 3 or 4 misses? Not saying Burks deserves a certain number of shots. But i dont think you can accurately measure his worth if he is being confined to a role that doesnt fit his skill-set

boy... youd never call me that to my face, jazzfanz has internet tough guys huh.
