I think the biggest factor in Rubio's improvement, of all factors, is that Quin believed in him, and that gave him the confidence to bring in Lopez to help him work on his game. This confidence spilled over into his shooting, and you know how it is when you believe you can't miss a shot -- invariably more go in than you normally would make. So, Quin should get a lot of credit. Another reason he should be in the running for COY.

Freedom, patience, but also teaching him some things to help him finish at the rim has been huge. I don't know if he's had a coach that really helped him with those things... Shouts to Johnny Bryant.

Thibs seems like a guy who doesn't care about player development much. What we have is really unique and potential free agents should... take note! couldnt help myself.

If we could bring Rubio and Exum back for 3 or 4 years at around $25 million combined per year (Rubio $14ish and Exum $10ish), I think we did great work. When those contracts run out, Rubio will likely move on or we keep him for much lower. Exum will either be ready for a massive pay day, or we move on.

I'm always confused on how these things work, but I think the Jazz can extend him using their cap-space in 2018 (if they have any). So they pay him more money in 2018-2019 as a way to make his future contract not as expensive.

Like if they wanted to sign him to a 4 year, 80 million dollar deal, they could pay him a certain portion of that in the last year of his current deal.

I'm not sure how that works exactly tho. Can the Jazz go past the cap to do that as long as they dont go past the LT? Or can they only do that if they have cap-space?

If I'm understanding your question correctly, then no, we can not go past the cap to do that. At least I don't think we can. We attempted to do such with Hill last season. We essentially offered him 88.3M for three years, with the three year extension being for 74.7M and the remaining value of the offer being the 13.6M we had in cap space last season. He turned the offer down and ironically enough, we used that cap space to acquire Rubio in our trade with the Wolves just before July 1st as Rubio made 13.4M last season, just under that remaining 13.6M in space we had.

I believe the most we can offer Rubio in an extension this summer is a salary that starts at 120% of 15M... so around 18M... I feel like that is more than he’d get on the open market.

So we could likely do an extension if we wanted, but I don’t see a reason to do one unless we get a decent discount.

Teams tha need a decent PG and that may be in the market are kind of tough to find. Phoenix? Orlando? Chicago? Indiana? Not sure those teams are desirable or super interested.

Personally, I don’t think Indy or Chicago would be interested. Maybe I’m wrong though.
