No the police and military dont have guns.... in this hypothetical there is world peace and absolutely no need for guns at all.

what you basically said is that you still want there to be guns even if no one needs them...... well guns are going to still kill accidentally..... so you want there to still be guns when basically all they are doing is accidentally killing innocent people.

What you are basically saying is that you are ok taking away those rights. So you are ok with not having rights and want there to be slaves.

I totally understand what you're saying, Fish. Really I do. But guns are like most things; use them responsibly and they are safe and useful. Yep, useful. I know Salty covered this, but accidental death makes up less than 5% of all deaths annually. Of that 5% (all accidental deaths) 0.5% are from firearms. Half a percent. Or, 0.0024% of all deaths.

Any accidental death is unfortunate, and no death is insignificant, but people accidentally shooting themselves or others is relatively uncommon. And it has more to do with responsible actions than with guns.

Ya im ok with taking away rights that make sense.... which in this hypothetical of world peace and no gun violence it would make sense to take away guns so no one is accidentally killed by something that has become obsolete.

I suppose people who think like this have been "educated" out of the whole idea of freedom. State Socialism is the philosphy in all our education, in our media, and politics. Everybody is thinking the government must do whatever needs doing, and must make sure no one has any alternatives of their own choosing.

I agree with all of this..... i guess that i would just rather have no one die from accidental gun deaths than a few.

And just to be clear.... i understand that im basically talking nonsense with my hypothetical situation because it is basically impossible...... i was really just kind of doing an expirement to see if i could get people to open thier minds a bit...... salty did and i was impressed.
Stoked could not bear to be swayed no matter what i threw out there though. It was an interesting expirement for me..... sorry for wasting everyone elses time with my dumb expirement.

I'm with you on the point that it would be ideal if guns were unnecessary. I'd love it if they were merely a luxury.

Again..... im talking about a PERFECT WORLD situation just to see if people could bear to part with thier guns if it would save lives.... apparently some would and some would not based only on a principle.

For me if in this perfect world scenario no one was being killed accidentally by the guns and noone was using them for killing people, then i would be fine with every man woman and child owning a gun!

No harm no foul. My mind is quite open. Regardless of wether we excersize our freedoms or not we should still have them.

I agree that death is horrible and no one wants accidental gun deaths. As Bronco said that is better fought by gun awarness programs and responsibility.
 
How about this one just for stoked.

In THIS PERFECT WORLD no one is dying from anything other than natural causes and accidental gun deaths........We have solved all cancer and disease and all other ways of dying early. We have solved overpopulation issues also. All governments are perfect and no one is poor. Everyone has everything that they could ever need and we are all happy (accept when someone is accidentally shot).
so in this even more unlikely and crazy scenario stoked... would you be ok if no one had a gun?

In fact im sorry for this whole stupid expirement. This is not who i am or how i normally act, i just sucked into a petty arguement that should have never happened.
I will try to learn from my mistakes for the future though.

It's ok. Who wouldn't love a Utopian society? I just think our definition of a Utopian Society is different.

To me it has to involve personal responsibility and freedom.

What if the government didn't ban anything or change the constitution at all, but everyone just CHOSE to destroy thier guns since they had become obsolete (but still dangerous).

So now guns dont exist since everyone destroyed thier guns by thier own choice...... would you be ok with that scenario?
