It was not a salary dump. And the Beasley trade for Dooling was proven wrong and it was total speculation.

That is a good point. The title of the thread says he was traded for a second rounder, but looks like it needs to be corrected. Beasley trade gets Miami a lottery pick (second rounder for Minnesota is not that much worse than Miami's first rounder). The way things are today, Wolves would get Miami top 5 pick. Of course that may change by the time they get the pick, but they are not making playoffs any time soon after winning 15 games last year - even with Beasley. So, top 10 pick at least is pretty much guaranteed. Now, that does make more sense. There is not much KOC could do here, since Miami did not want any salary back, but only picks.

Hopper, looks like Beasley is worth a bit more than you thought, eh?

Where are you gittin the "lottery pick" conclusion out of "unspecified picks?" I don't know the details of this deal, and can't find anyone who does right now. My only point here was that Beasley was not simply offered to either Utah or Minnesota, and no one else. and that chances were that maybe KOC wasn't as incompetent as you insisted, a point you seem to have now conceded:

Perhaps a price tag had something to do with it? It sure took Miami less than an hour to trade Beasley for a lottery pick (swapping picks with Minnesota means they get lottery, no?). And that's why I said KOC was not incompetent, since original report was 2nd rounder only, now it seems lottery pick was needed. The incompetent part was not willing to beat second round pick Wolves were originally reported to give to Heat. Something that turned out to be false, since it was more than 2nd rounder, but you actually defended when you thought it was true. In other words, you completely misjudged value of Beasley and just blindly defended our FO.

Wrong. YOU"RE the one who insisted it was a second round pick. Again, the additonal details are unspecified, but mebbe YOU know all the details, I dunno. I didn't "defend" any particular value, I merely said that if the value was low, there would probably be a reason, which "reason" I confessed I did not know.

I don't really care if he starred in a snuff film. If the dude can make us better, we'd be stupid to not at least give him a shot. What the hell do we have to lose? Most of us have already conceded this team ain't contending and will probably take a step back from last year's squad. So what's the worse case scenario? He goes and shoots up in some downtown alleyway, foams at the mouth, ***** himself and Utah still finishes with 45-wins? At least we'd have a story to talk about that got us through what will inevitably be an extremely painful and annoying season.

And that's why the Jazz will never win nuthin'. Nice guys always finish last. This ain't a goddamn boy scout jamboree, folks. This is professional basketball. It's not supposed to be clean.

Uhh, we could mebbe lose the $5-6 million in salary he due, while simultaneously foregoing the chance to git another player. "If he can make us better" may be a big-*** IF. If the guy has mental problems, he could be on the funny farm, or in drug rehab, or suspended from the league next year, whether or not he has any basketball talent.

Lotta ifs. That's the nature of the game, my boy. You need to go out on a limb sometimes to be successful. Jazz can sit pat and I guarantee you in two years nothing is going to change. This franchise is run by a bunch of *******. Larry Miller started growing balls after the Stockton and Malone era. Unfortunately, he's dead.

Frankly, this team isn't going anywhere. It probably won't be able to grab a huge free agent next year. We really don't have many non-risk options out there.
 
So the choices are either take Beasley for the price Minnesota did, whatever that is, exactly, or mebbe more, if we had to outbid them, OR "sit pat," that it, Sean?
