Tough Day To Be In Law Enforcement

Weird. It’s not like the GOP does a good job of hiding their racism. This was just today:

This was just a few years ago in arguably the most high profile governor’s race:

I haven’t even brought up Republican history since 1964, the new Jim Crow of the war on drugs, actual racist policies, and the daily racism of Fox News, am radio, and Trump. At this point, being surprised that the GOP engages in racism would be like being surprised that the earth is round or that vaccines help to prevent disease. What kind of news does your family member consume? Did they start becoming politically aware in the 80s? I’ve found that those who grew up with Reagan are much more loyal to the party than almost any other demographic.

What a devisive narrative. I don't think you pointed out a single clear example of racism in your post. In my view the Democratic party is by far the more racist party. They interject racism into virtually everything. For instance, claiming that the Obama comment was racism assumes that race is the only characteristic Obama has. Believe it or not, there is a lot more to him. Most of my Republican friends can see that. My opinion of Obama has nothing to do with his race. Just because this guy doesn't like Obama does not mean that race has anything to do with his opinion.

Considering what those protesting are saying, and the comment sections on Foxnews and Breitbart, Obama’s presidency was very much about race, and how angry he made white people. I’m not going to recount the numerous, openly racist witch hunts R’s launched against him, Trump’s wins as the most racist btw. Youre right, there is so much more to him. But R’s tried to use his race against him, they made it about race from the get go. Powerful black men scare racist white men.

Have you been to WV? Again, this does not surprise me, at all.

It's very simple. For at least 20-30 years, teachers have been trained to see themselves as being on students' side. It's not you and your colleagues against the students. So when a colleague is investigated for possible molestation of a student, you don't think "What a terrible thing happened to my colleague," you think "What a terrible thing happened to my student." As we can see from the Buffalo example, that's not at all how cops think. A 75-year old getting beaten by your colleagues isn't terrible. It's terrible your colleagues are now in trouble for it. I think most of us grow out of this kind of attitude around the age of 12. The rest of us, I suppose, just get jobs in law enforcement so they don't have to.

Not that any of what they have done is defensible but cops work side by side very closely, especially in large scale situations like recently. Teachers pretty much do their own thing in the classroom. I do. I rely on no one. Not to say we don’t do cross-curricular some or talk daily but it’s just different.

I know nothing about the New Black Panters, but I don't really think the Huey P Newton foundation has any legit claim to the legacy of the BPP either.
Would be interested in your rationale for this. They seem to at the very least have a partial claim. Huey Newton was the co-founder, along with Bobby Seale, of the Black Panthers. His widow heads the Foundation. Certainly it has a Newton centric perspective but that’s to be expected. Soul on Ice and other writings by Eldridge Cleaver give another perspective as Cleaver advocated a more radical direction.

Newton centric isn't really my issue, that's understandable and he really is the central figure to the Panthers story imo. I just think they go way too far with trying to sugarcoat the party/his history.

Just curious, is there another democracy on earth doing something like this? Incorporating paramilitaries to police (intimidate) its own citizens Seems very authoritarian to me and the opposite of what a democracy is supposed to be. Are we witnessing a fascist takeover? And what happens if/when he does this same thing on election night and prevents thousands/millions in swing states from voting?

For those interested in a good read. Wish I would have read this before engaging here.

Okay, gotcha. The Black Panthers have a complicated but completely disparate history from this new group. My original point was just to differentiate the Black Panthers from the New Panthers because a lot of people seem to conflate the two. The Black Panthers are history. They dissolved back in the 1980s.

I am sure you can probably find racist comments on Fox or Breitbart just as I could find racist comments on CNN or Huff Post. To me that does not make Obama's presidency about race at all. I know lots of people who didn't like him for his policies. They wouldn't like any politician, regardless of skin color, for those same policies.

Have I been to West Virginia? Yes. Why?
