The other thing with Conley is... if we suck the rest of the year or suck in the playoffs... I think they can move him for something else and I expect they strongly consider it. We get the play he proved over the last 3 years plus we likely get something when/if we move him.

it was a steal for Memphis. It saved them from the misery of having to overpay Mike Conley for over 30mil a year, giving Morant all the necessary minutes to develop his game, acquiring multiple rotation players and draft picks in the process. they wouldn't have gotten any better offer for Conley.

They also got really lucky... Keeping Mike could have easily pushed them down in the lotto... but they got lucky and landed Ja. They very well could have overplayed their hand and would be in a much different spot. They also could have had Mike get hurt and become untradeable. Sometimes luck factors in much more than we are willing to admit. Hell if Bogey stays healthy going into the bubble or the Mike 3 drops we might have been able to slide into the conference finals.

It was a solid deal... it made sense for both teams... I'd have loved to keep one less pick in the deal but with the way we have effed up picks the last little while I am not sure it matters.

They negotiated a great deal... like I said got 25% more than I would have liked (would have loved to sub Exum in for Jae, or make them eat the Exum deal, or retain a 1st).

To argue that Mike has been worse than Jae is dumb. Brandon Clarke is fun but he's an 8th man with a funky fit. We ended up getting what we were looking for and saw the impact on offense.

The issue on the Mike deal was that we pivoted from ****** shooters who play defense and fully swung the other way. It helped us take the next step but we really should have moved on from Favs or Ricky earlier and seen what that looked like.

We shot our shot and it was a solid shot. If we hadn't effed up the other stuff around it on the margins we'd be sitting pretty... say we didn't sign Favs or we drafted Bane or didn't do the Ed Davis deal... We missed so badly on those deals and need the assets or space we wasted cleaning that **** up. We are still in a good position but I don't see us as equal to GS and Phoenix and they have another deal or two they can do (though it gets hard for GS).

That is the frustrating thing about the DL era... he got some of the biggest most important things right but then screwed up so bad on the fringes (not all the fringe moves but a good amount). We needed one more "win" to follow up the Conley deal and whiffed... a lot.

it's not an issue with our 8th or 9th man who won't see more than 15min a game. Like swapping Ed Davis for some other backup centers ain't gonna help us take the next step. it's an issue with our starting unit/main rotation which needs a major shake up. Shifting from one extreme to the other is dumb no matter how you look at it.

To win it all you need to be well rounded and have the flexibilities to adopt to all kinds of strategies and game plans. Coach Budenholzer even ****ing said it after finally winning his first chip with the Bucks. He said they won it because they were finally able to get more flexibilities on his roster.

people talk about packaging Jingles, Clarkson or even Royce in a deal. But Conley and Bogey are the ones that will more likely get us some actual good players. But yeah, we can also trade Mitchell and build around Conley like what Cy is suggesting.

Memphis is the clear winner of that trade... Some may argue it's a fair deal for both sides. But for those who say it was a steal for the Jazz and Memphis got fleeced... I just don't know what they been smokin

Conley/Gobert best PNR combo in the NBA and I never suggested building around Conley. I say build around Gobert and improve defense and get a #1 option who isn't 6'1.

I think it was a similar deal... may have had Exum instead of Jae. But you are right... the price should have gone down at that point... we missed a playoffs where we could have had Mike.
