Trade deadline discussion

Sure, but it also makes sense.
It’s really easy for us as outsiders to say guys should focus on the things they are good at and not expand their games… be Royce or Finney Smith but it is easy for those types to want more and expand their games in the ads that are good for them but not necessarily the team. It’s rare find guys like Royce who are excellent in their role and don’t hurt you by trying to increase their own value.

I’d add Cleveland who needs some shot creation. JC is not a great fit for a lot of teams… if he wasn’t on our team we might not think it’s a great fit for us… I think there is a limited market for him and it’s likely why he stays put.

Jazz should be trying to add to our wing talent… I don’t think they find anything. Reports make sense but I highly doubt any real news.

Only potential big change I could see is if Joe sustained a year ending injury… then they may use his contract to add to our roster.

There aren't a ton of JC destinations out there, but your bolded point is a key point. The most common thing people want from JC is less, and that makes total sense on this roster because we don't need more. There is so much offensive talent on this roster that JC's game is a luxury and sometimes a burden. Very few if any teams have the same offensive firepower that we do, so to some degree most teams "need" him more than us.

CLE is the clearest destination IMO. They are having a great season, but also desperately need another backcourt scorer. It seems as though they weren't too keen on giving Sexton an extension. I think he is very much in play as a trade candidate and piece in a 3 teamer.

Mini poll:

JC and a first rounder for Smart
or
JC for Green and two second rounders

It's close, but I'd have to go with Smart. DG is great, and I think he's the exact type of defender that we need to try and slow down the Warriors, but Smart is also great in a scramble drill and much better as an on ball defender. I think he's the more realistic trade of the two as well.

So I went to youtube to find the most recent footage of Green I could get and the first play is Bojan blowing him by and then getting an and1.

Two days ago, Houston says they want a FRP for Christian Wood. Yesterday, the Jazz say they want defensive length and are willing to offer a FRP. I think this would at least be a discussion.

Houston gets Royce and Butler with a FRP. We include Oni as salary filler. Houston waives Oni because they're cheap (same as Exum). Houston can then flip Royce to a team like Brooklyn for another player and a 2RP. Hence, Houston gets a good young prospect, two picks and saves some money for the last 1.5 years of Wood's deal.
I am a fan of Wood. I wanted to get Wood for a long time. Wood is definitely long, longer than what we have now. I say give me Wood, and I will be a happy camper. I know if I woke up and found out I had Wood, it would make my day.

Green is kind of like Covington. He's is great in a 2v3 or 3v4 situation, great in rotation, and really great in transition defense. He makes every defense a lot better...but he is not that amazing he's guarding the ball.

I think this type of defense skill/talent will be VERY important if we face the Warriors.

It’s a not a great mixtape… second night of a back to back and he’s old AF.

If rumors pick up on social media, expect our good play to slow down and maybe start losing some bunnies.

I could definitely see this happening. I really hate that the rumors are already starting when the trade deadline is still two months away. This reminds me of Rubio's last season here when there was a ton of rumors swirling and him and the rest of the team played really poorly in the weeks leading up to the deadline.

I trust his shot more than Covington. I think he’s a little less flammable one on one… he gets less deflections though. I just think he’s a super smart player.

I'd see the pros to Green is that it probably wouldn't be all that much of a shake up for him to fit in. Just play defense and hit high percentage on open shots. The structure of the offense is already there, he just needs to stand there and wait for the pass when he's open. Smart definitely changes dynamics because he's going to handle the ball more and it would change the offense.

Player for player I agree... but that first has to be in 2027 with limited protections... unless its a fake first. That means we are on the edge of where this team can take us and we are giving up a large part of our draft future. I also think the Smart contract has a very good chance of becoming a bad contract quickly... the deal just sucks the life out of our future and I'm not sure how much it improves our chances this year. We also go up in salary instead of down... and we very much need to go down.
