I don’t think Hayward is available. He’s really good, he wants to be there, and I don’t think their cap situation is bad at all.

Can’t think of a reason why they’d want to move him.

How is he not a wing? He gets twice as many steals and deflections as Niang and is a better rebounder. Better with the ball in his hand as a pick and roll ball handler, better passer. More fluid with his movements (not hard I know). I think he's a great connector fill the gap guy who can shoot a little. I think Niang is a volume spot up shooter who will move the ball along. I think Kenrich does a lot of things we need... not a wing stopper but those guys have other warts. I think Kenrich is closer to a younger Ingles than a Niang.

They will not go into the tax... they will need to pay Bridges $30M next year... that means they will be very close to the tax and that is before they have addressed their center issue. They may not move him but he is older than their core guys... Hes a guy I could see being available. He won't go for the homer deals we have listed though.

Even if he’s getting $30M (I don’t think he is) they have a ton of ways to get under the tax that do not involve moving Hayward’s salary. I think they are would be much quicker to move on from the other players on their roster.

Their cap situation isn’t bad. A ton of room under the tax and room to work with. Should be easy to get under the tax without having to trade a franchise cornerstone. Definitely not happening this TD.
 
It’s hard to give up on guys we’ve invested so heavily in, but if we’re willing to cash in on their league-wide value, here’s the deal:

I still think my favorite trade idea is JC for Smart. Not sure if Boston would have any interest in JC or what else we would have to include, likely a first round pick. Smart's not a very good shooter but he's still shooting better from the field than Clarkson and almost as good from 3. Obviously the perimeter defense would be a huge upgrade over JC, as would the playmaking. Smart is in the starting lineup for the Celtics and averaging 34 minutes a game, so convincing him to come off the bench could be a problem.

That's probably what I would do. I think Smart is only like an inch shorter than Royce so that lineup wouldn't really be any smaller than our current starting 5.
