Trade Partners for TB

This sounds like the best answer to where we stand right now on the Burke situation. Guess this means they will definitely keep Cotton whether or not Burke remains on the team. But the fact that we are keeping two other backups for Exum tells you all need to know about the FO's opinion of Burke.

Exactly. Exum is numero uno, no doubt. So if TB was thought to a solid lock as the number 2, why would you keep a 3rd and a 4th? The only reason you do is that you are likely to get rid of one, and that one is likely TB from my point of view.

Why? Maybe because our front office are realists and know the likelihood of injuries occurring and knowing that they know you can never have too many PG who are comfortable with the rock in their hands...

Burke staying with this team & he gon' hit huge shots in the playoffs next year, best believe JFC.

Please tell me when he has shown the ability to pass more? Or to facilitate when there are better players around him? I'm convinced that the biggest reason he was benched is because of his inability or unwillingness to do either of those 2 things. Hayward improved when Trey was benched, that was not a coincidence.
.
For the record I would be fine if the Jazz bought him out and moved on. I think Cotton is as good if not better. Cotton right now is doing stuff in summer league that Trey Burke never did.
.
I wanted Burke, was happy we got him. But I was wrong, he's just not a good NBA player. He hurts your team while on the court more than he contributes.
.
Also he'd have to improve his efficiency dramatically to be an average NBA backup. I just don't see it.

Great post. I remember many of us were wondering why Hayward started off games so slowly. He'd be virtually invisible in the 1st quarter in terms of points or assists. Well, pretty tough to do anything when some other player has the ball and insists on going 1-on-3. It's the same when Trey comes off the bench. Half the time I'd watch the games, I'd be yelling "PASS THE DAMN BALL" at the TV. Granted our bench was pretty weak because of injuries, but there were plenty of times Trey would ignore a wide-open player and take a low-percentage shot or try to drive inside against several defenders.

AS for leading the team in assists...he averaged four assists in 30 mins. Is that acceptable for a PG who can't shoot and is not a good defender? So he was the best of a pathetic group. That's not saying much. Next season, Hayward, Burks and Hood should be averaging 3-4 assists each as the play makers on the team. Jazz need a PG who recognizes that he needs to get the ball to the better, more efficient players and not be a volume shooter.

Unloading Trey at this point is probably a mistake, the Jazz won't be reliant on him anyway, so why rush? why move him now while his value is this low?

Cashing out on a player 2 years removed from being traded up for, just seems very un-Jazzlike to me. It also doesn't seem in line with the Neto and Pleiss moves, which IMO are clearly of the "this is our guy and we're sticking with him" variety.

I'd wait til the deadline and offer him to a contender, maybe some combination of injuries and a hot start can happen.. It's not like the Jazz are making any big improvements, so letting Trey stick around to try and show progress just seems logical.

These new contracts have changed the game, Trey's contract is still relatively cheap. I'm sure the Jazz still value having him on a restricted deal incase there's marked improvement. Cory Joseph 4 years 30 mil is an eye opener, if that's the precedent, Trey still has a chance to get paid.

I don't remember us ever having 4 Pg, sometimes only 2. So why 4 now? Why are the Jazz so interested in Cotton and why did they sign Neto if all was hunkydory with TB?

Well, KOC used to believe in carrying just 14 players. Obviously, DL doesn't mind having a full 15-man roster.

IMO, you carry 5 bigs, 5 wings and 3 PG's. Then the last 1-2 spots are "wild cards" reserved for the next best player(s). Position doesn't matter at that point. Weren't the Jazz at 7 wings and just two true PG's last year while seeing if one of those wings could be a combo guard?

If you did not see improvement in Burkes defense after he got benched and changed his effort level a lot on defense then you either did not watch the games towards the end of the season or your blind with hatred towards Burke.

The best opportunity to trade him should have been to Indiana (along with a future 1st round pick) on draft day so that the Jazz could take Myles Turner. I'm still optimistic about Trey Lyles future under Snyder, but I'm an admitted Turner homer. Turner would have been a perfect fit for the Jazz.
