I wouldn't. I might trade him for the raw high upside Ousmane Dieng from OKC if they are itching to make a run at the play in. Dieng is a year away from a year away so they might consider it if we added a pick swap or something. Maybe he isn't available for anyone, but I bet he gets squeezed with all the other more ready talent on that team.
I also might go the route of trading him for Jalen Smith ( still only 19 seems older) who can be our 3rd big easily able to play the 4 or 5 imo. Assuming they plan on keeping Myles out there now that they are a ton better than expected.

Huh… how would a guy be in the league multiple years and still be 19?

You know what you can turn a first round pick into? A raw project you can develop… don’t overthink things.

Collins could turn out to be another player with a Markkanen like resurgence. Uber athletic with versatility. I wouldn't doubt for a second he could turn things around here in a new system that's more team oriented.

This is how I feel. Different players, but not too dissimilar in the how their career's have developed and the narrative surrounding them. Lauri and Collins are the "outside in" and "inside out" versions of each other. Running PnR's with Collins while having Lauri on the perimeter will be very difficult to stop. Collins was one of the best, if not the best PnR players in the league when that was his role. Maybe this shooting dip is for real, but I have no doubts he will still be dominant around the basket and inside the paint.

Defensively, he's also improved quite a bit. He will add a lot with his rebounding alone.

Jalen Smith is about to turn 23. I definitely wouldn't trade Vanderbilt for him. I would trade him for Ousmane Dieng in a second though but there is no way the thunder would. They traded 3 first just to get him and he has serious upside. The thunder are going to be really scary in a few years if Holmgren and Dieng come even close to fulfilling their upside.

*The trade for Dejounte Murray, who the Hawks gave up Danilo Gallinari (released and signed by the Celtics), a 2023 protected first-round pick, a 2025 first-round pick, a 2026 pick swap and a 2027 first-round pick. It was the major move of the offseason to bring in the all-star as someone to take pressure off Trae Young. In addition to all the Hawks gave up, which some consider way too much, there was concern that Murray needs to play on the ball, much like Young.

*The signing of Aaron Holiday, a former high school teammate of Nick Ressler and played for McMillan with the Pacers.

Young missed a game against the Nuggets in December after what was described as a ‘miscommunication’ between star player and head coach became public. Young, who was injured, did not attend the game, a normal occurrence for players who are injured, after an exchange with McMillan at the pregame shootaround.

The relationship between Schlenk and Young has deteriorated over recent months. Issues began following Game 2 of the playoff series with the Heat last year. In the return to Atlanta, Young chartered a private flight and did not inform the team, according to several people familiar with the situation. In the middle of the playoffs, Young was fined.

Collins is seen as a toxic player, and he's probably not blameless, but I do think ATL is **** organization right now and he's not really wrong to be upset about his role even if he should be more professional.

I don't think he will be Lauri 2.0 because Lauri blossoming the way he did was so rare to begin with, but I do think we shouldn't write off younger players as bad eggs because they played in toxic environments. I would be thrilled to give Collins a shot with Hardy.

The Utah Jazz have been the most engaged team recently on a potential Collins trade, league sources say. The Washington Wizards have also been among the teams expressing interest in Collins. The Jazz have two pieces in Malik Beasley and Jarred Vanderbilt that could interest the Hawks.

The Timberwolves and Clippers are expressing interest in Jazz guard Mike Conley Jr., league sources say. Conley, a well-respected veteran in Utah and across the league, has averaged 10.3 points, 7.5 assists and 2.3 rebounds this season. The Jazz are 5-7 without Conley this season and 18-17 with him in the lineup.

My big concern is the future is Lauri and Walker… if Collins is the roll man what is Walker doing? If Walker is the roll man what is Collins doing? We’d end up falling into the same trap because he’s a tweener… not quite a good enough shooter… not quite a good enough rim protector. I think there is a reason he lost that “role” because they needed Capela for rebounding and defense… and that is his best use.

I think Indiana is the best fit but they may not be interested enough.

JC is interesting but I’m personally more interested on what else we would get and I think Ainge holds the line cuz unless they find a sucker (and they been looking for a while) they are stick and the bull comes due next year.

My guess is the deal would center around Wall and Kennard for Conley and the sticking points are - what other compensation are we getting? what team will give us an expiring for Wall?

Wall could be waived but has another year on his deal and won't take a buyout. Wall and Gay is a lot of dead cap but I suppose we could use them as expirings next year... I'd want to send both of them home though.

the nice thing about collins is he can hit the three. so he can be the roll man at times and a floor spacer at times.

I liked the idea of a pick swap of their pick this year with our Brooklyn/Philadelphia pick. Maybe we just get their first this year outright… not sure. I’m down with getting Kennard though.

I think Lauri is the reason we could make it work and it be a very good lineup. If we are strictly worried about who is the roll man and what is the other one doing that is a little silly. I really don't think its silly to worry about. Its one of the main reasons he is having issues currently. His shooting should tick up but if he is mostly a spot up guy for half the time he plays I am not sure you are getting the dynamic John Collins you want. Also I think you can get a better 3 and D option without doing all the gymnastics to make it work.

I get why he is a buy low and that his value could increase, but I need some compensation cuz the risk is that we get the same production out of John that the Hawks have gotten the last two years. He's had a hard time staying healthy too... its one of those deals where the more I look at it the more I'd prefer a more simple route and why I can see that DA is insisting on draft comp.

You are correct that 19 age seemed off to me , thanks trade machine smh. hes 22. Irrelevant to my point about him for this roster though.
Much rather have him than a pick.
as far as Dieng he was a late lottery pick at a position we could justify developing and better than any pick we get from the Nets in 4 years or adding a 4th 1st round pick in this draft which Danny would never want.
I still think we are going to pick 2 players from this draft not 3 unless one is stashed.
