A reporter from El Paso, Texas, that travels to Jaurez, Mexico daily to report on the drug war, stated on NPR today that although inland Mexicans would be opposed, many residents of Jauraz would be in favor of US troops getting a crack at the cartels in Jaurez (paraphrased, no link). Obviously there would be many obstacles to this happening and it is doubtful it would even be possible and who knows what the results would be. I'm not saying I'm in favor of this or even that the US troops would do a better job, although a major problem is that the Mexican police forces have been infiltrated by the cartels. I was wondering if there are any Mexicans, Mexican-Americans, or just people with more knowledge on this than me that have an opinion. I'm not arguing this one way or another, I just thought it was interesting and would like to see this discussed. On a related note, the lockout better end soon.

All I know is that Mexican drug cartels are no bueno and kill way too many people down there in Juarez. I don't know if the U.S. and our military could be a solution, but I don't see why it wouldn't be a bad idea to drop a abomb on Juarez to send a message to those beheading sons of bitches.

Yeah, a bomb would be great, especially with all the dead children and such it would leave in its wake.

Unless the US military has invented that totally awesome bomb that doesn't manage to kill everything in its path.

It was a joke, dude. I didn't think I would have to clear that up. My jokes are lame, I know, I know.

The biggest entitlement program we have is our military.

Out of control spending, engines we don't need, every state loves military contracts (creates jobs), most of the servicemen just sit around, most of the camps, bases, and embassys as overloaded with pork (are $10,000 dollar curtains really necessary? Or a $1 billion dollar embassy in Iraq?). Not to mention how everyone and their dog blackmail us. If we "don't" give them military support, they'll do this. If we take away our military support, they'll do that.

if Mexico sucks at taking out the garbage, that sucks. Why should we become involved militarily? The best solution to these drug cartels would be for us to drastically cut the demand for their goods. If there's a drop in demand, all of a sudden those cartels might have to focus on getting real jobs.

We need to cut the defense spending, like NOW. There's no reason why we should be spending so much more than anybody else. Just ask the USSR how that went...

Militaries make poor police forces. The action would just turn the cartels into guerillas, and we'd be there 20 years, at least, tryingto get rid of them. Iraq if Al-Quaeda was making a profit.

As long as there's an artificially inflated price for illicit drugs in America, there will be cartels in Mexico. Too much money to be made.

I wonder how Americans would feel if Mexico started sending troops to combat drug users? Or for any reason? Would we accept any foreign power into our country even if their motives were noble (like cracking down on drug cartels?)?

Why do we think we can do this to other countries?

Just don't understand things like this....

You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to The Thriller again

militarism is as addictive as drugs, and maybe even more expensive.

founding fathers didn't want a "standing army", just citizens prepared and able to defend ourselves. They had seen how Cromwell ruled England and gave reform a bad name with army thugs that made royalty look good. Overlordyism takes all kinds of forms. One we don't want is a military class willing to kill citizens on orders from elitists.

We also don't want to train such thugs on the streets of Jaurez.
