Venezuela

Really could not be a clearer statement, by Stephen Miller, that might rules the world.

Stephen Miller, a top aide to President Trump, asserted on Monday that Greenland rightfully belonged to the United States and that the Trump administration could seize the semiautonomous Danish territory if it wanted.

“Nobody’s going to fight the United States militarily over the future of Greenland,” Mr. Miller told Jake Tapper, the CNN host, after being asked repeatedly whether he would rule out using military force.

The remarks were part of a vocal push by Mr. Miller, long a powerful behind-the-scenes player in Trump administration policy, to justify American imperialism and a vision for a new world order in which the United States could freely overthrow national governments and take foreign territory and resources so long as it was in the national interest.

“We live in a world, in the real world, Jake, that is governed by strength, that is governed by force, that is governed by power,” he said. “These are the iron laws of the world since the beginning of time.”

THIS: A jawdropping rejection of a rules based international order. The right of other nations to enjoy their independence is just an “international niceties”, the United States can seize any territory in its national interest: “The United States of America is running Venezuela,” Mr. Miller said, dismissing international treaties enshrining a nation’s right to independence and sovereignty as “international niceties.”

Rightfully belongs to the United States?

Biggest problem the Danes have is the presence of US bases on the island. They should firstly commit significant troop numbers to the the island and evict the US. As long as the US cant air lift resources to Greenland they're ****ed.

He's horrible because he ran Venezuela into the ground despite them having tons of natural resources, then lost an election by a landslide but claimed victory anyway.

I think there may have been a way to do essentially what happened in a legitimate way. It starts by talking to Congress and the Senate, our allies and then making a case at the UN.

Just abducting a foreign leader because we want to control their oil instead of China is not the way the United States is supposed to act. We've made the world a significantly less safe place. The lessons we finally learned after WWII have been thrown out the window and we're back to "might makes right" and the law of the jungle, which alpha bros love because the U.S. has the worlds most powerful military...for now.
Good points, fully agreed. We've elected a power-hungry authoritarian despotic oligarch. This behavior is revolting and needs to be stopped, but also shouldn't surprise anyone.

The Vikings harvested timber in North America for use in their Greenland settlements. Scandinavians were tapping North America for timber, and the fur trade saw North American furs entering the European market. In the Middle Ages, Europeans wore furs that originated in Canada. Long before the English settlements in Va. and Plymouth. Long before the United States existed.

Regular Voyages: The consistent use of American timber suggests regular voyages across the Davis Strait between North America and Greenland from the 10th to 14th centuries”.

Popes appointed bishops for Greenland:

“Popes appointed bishops to Greenland's historic Diocese of Gardar
until the Reformation, with the last being Vincent Peterson Kampe in 1519 by Pope Leo X, after which the diocese became titular/dormant; the modern Catholic presence saw resident bishops appointed in 1984 (Kristian Mørch) and then as ** titulares in 2001 by Pope John Paul II (Edward Clark)**, as Greenland is part of the Diocese of Copenhagen today, notes The Pillar and Wikipedia.“

So no, in no historical context does Greenland “rightfully” belong to the United States. Indigenous Inuits and European culture constitute the historical context. Long before the United States existed. Taking Greenland by force is just copying Putin in Ukraine. Which is how they see the world, since they are announcing the Western Hemisphere will be America’s domain.

But, geographically: “Greenland is part of North America continent because it sits on the North American tectonic plate, but politically and culturally, it's tied to Europe as an autonomous territory within the Kingdom of Denmark, with strong historical and social links to Europe. So, while geologically it's North American, its governance and heritage lean European, creating a unique dual identity.“

The White House itself announced our new foreign policy:”No games. FAFO.”

That’s some change.

He was a terrible person so I am sure many people should be happy about this. There were large celebrations in the street when Saddam Huesin was overthrown as well. But the USA isnt the world police and the POTUS cant simply decide to overthrow anyone he wants. Do you think we should do this to every dictator? Every bad leader that the people dont like?
Orange turd had no issues removing sanctions from Belarus dictator Lukashenko in exchange for potash. It is all about money for orange turd - nothing about " fighting evil dictators". Otherwise Putin would be captured long ago...

The government of Venezuela has declared a state of emergency that applies to the entire territory of the country.

This decision was made after a large-scale US attack on Caracas and other regions, which led to the capture of President Nicolas Maduro, InfoDefensa reports.

Defense Minister Vladimir Padrino Lopez issued a statement on behalf of the army, confirming full support for the government decree. He emphasized that the army remains “united and cohesive” in the face of external aggression.

In an address on state television, Padrino called Maduro’s seizure a “cowardly kidnapping.” He added that this happened after the “cold-blooded murder” of a part of the presidential guard.

According to official data, the US attacks covered not only Caracas, but also the states of Miranda, Aragua and La Guaira. Both military and civilian targets were damaged, which led to the declaration of a state of emergency.

The decree on the Commonwealth of Venezuela activates Article 338 of the Venezuelan Constitution. This allows the government to temporarily restrict certain freedoms, including movement and assembly, but at the same time guarantees the preservation of basic rights of citizens.

Stephen Miller wants Strongman rule of the world.

Stephen Miller has spent the bulk of his White House career furthering hard-right domestic policies that have resulted in mass deportations, family separations and the testing of the constitutional tenets that grant American citizenship.

Now, Mr. Miller, President Trump’s 40-year-old deputy chief of staff for policy and homeland security adviser, is casting his hard-right gaze further abroad: toward Venezuela and the Danish territory of Greenland, specifically.

Mr. Miller is doing so, the president’s advisers say, in service of advancing Mr. Trump’s foreign policy ambitions, which so far resemble imperialistic designs to exploit less powerful, resource-rich countries and territories the world over and use those resources for America’s gain. According to Mr. Miller, using brute force is not only on the table but also the Trump administration’s preferred way to conduct itself on the world stage.

“We live in a world in which you can talk all you want about international niceties and everything else, but we live in a world, in the real world, Jake, that is governed by strength, that is governed by force, that is governed by power,” Mr. Miller told Jake Tapper of CNN on Monday, during a combative appearance in which he was pressed on Mr. Trump’s long-held desire to control Greenland.

“These are the iron laws of the world since the beginning of time,” he said.

This aggressive posture toward Greenland — and in turn, the rest of the world — is a perfect encapsulation of the raw power that Mr. Trump wants to project, even against Denmark, the NATO ally that controls Greenland. The moment also illustrates how people like Mr. Miller have ascended to the inner circle of a leader who has no interest in having his impulses checked, and how they exert their influence once they arrive there.

The moment also shows just how differently Mr. Trump has operated in his second term from how he did in his first.

About midway through his first term, the president began joking with his aides about his desire to buy Greenland for its natural resources, like coal and uranium. At the time, his advisers humored him with offers to investigate the possibility of buying the semiautonomous territory. They did not think Mr. Trump was serious, or that it could ever actually happen. Those advisers are gone.

Flash forward to the second term. Mr. Miller has the president’s complete trust, a staff of over 40 people, and several big jobs that include protecting the homeland and securing territories further afield. A first-term joke made in passing about purchasing Greenland for its natural resources is now a term-two presidential threat to attack and annex the Danish territory by force if necessary, under the guise of protecting Americans from foreign incursions.

I guess trump misspoke when he said drill baby drill. What he meant was steal baby steal.

I did find it funny that trump said everything went perfectly in this operation and then I come to find out later that one of the helicopters was shot and the pilot was hit with 3 bullets in the leg and the helicopter barely avoided crashing.

Well and 80 people in Venezuela died. I'm sure they all deserved it.
