Yeah, I bought it. It's okay... I got bored of it quicker than I thought I might... probably because the core shooting mechanic just really isn't all that strong when you get right down to it.

But if you want to play a REALLY good game:

That's a download link for X-Com: UFO Defense. It's a really old PC game, and also saw release on the PS1 (launch title, I think). Anyway, the whole download is only 8.5 megs, and 20 megs when you install it. But old as it is, it's one of the best games I've ever played, period.

But don't take my word for it. IGN ranked it as the #1 PC game of all time:

I didn't play that one, but I did basically quit a decent job when I was 19 to play X-Com Apocalypse. Top 3 game for me, along with Romance of the Three Kingdoms III and Civilization II.

I got Red Dead the day it came out and I still haven't beaten it. Too easy to get sidetracked playing the game with all of the side missions (although they can get a bit repetitive after a while). It's a great game, but I think I'm a bit fatigued with it at this point because it's so damn long.

I'm playing through it now. I, being a fan of the setting, have to say that is game is much more enjoyable than GTA4. Every aspect of it has me enthralled. 10/10

Isn't it a little early to be padding your post stats beantown?

RTS games for the win. Use your brain more you first-person-shooter-idiots. Gamer chicks aren't THAT hot.

I beat Red Dead Redemption and Alan Wake in the past week, both are excellent games although I foresee I'll go back to Red Dead Redemption more frequently for achievements and multiplayer.

Also Split/Second is probably Michael Bay's wet dream. Nothing but explosions and fast cars. So you know... ****ing awesome.

My brother and I played through a couple of games this summer. Mass Effect 2 and Final Fantasy 13... Mass Effect 2 was an AMAZING game, and one of the best games that I have ever played.

Final Fantasy 13 on the other hand was a joke.

Also Fifa 10 is an outstanding game!

Well, trust me, play it now. It's still worth playing. I played Apocalypse as well, and it doesn't touch this version.

Never got into the Civilization games, but I do *love* the Romance of the Three Kingdoms games. I remember playing Romance VII until way late into the night, then finally turning off and realizing that it was like 7:30 in the morning. I've never lost track of time playing a video game the way I did when playing those damn Romance games. I keep telling myself "I'll just take one more city," or "I'll just recruit one more officer," and on and on it goes...

I think my favorite is still Romance of the Three Kingdoms X, though. I feel like the balance on that one was just right... other than Marksmen being flippin' invincible.

I have to second the X-COM recommendation. I still play it from time to time and weep a little inside that nothing else has ever blended strategy, turn-based tactics and rpg elements so beautifully.
