If the picks stay in the mid-20's then we didn't accomplish much...unless the Jazz can trade up by combining picks. But that's going to be hard to do next year; those top 6-7 picks are going to be VERY valuable. And forget about trying to trade up from #3 to 1 or 2, That ain't gonna happen. In terms of payroll, it's a wash, I think. Jazz would have to pay the difference between floor and actual. This moves handcuffs what we can do at the deadline, so who knows if we could have gotten better assets in return. AS for the picks, there are usually 1 or 2 teams willing to sell a late 1st, just like what happened this year.

Handcuffs us or potentially gives us more options at the deadline?

As for the pics, they are just more assets, man. Plus, you never know what will happen by 2017 and Iggy does very little for them, IMO. As has been said, they are one injury prone player away from walking the line between 8th seed and lottery.

Tell me... how many 2nd round picks did we get here? I though that I read 4 x 2nd round picks earlier, but I cannot find where. This all makes me giggle.

1. We don't tie up our money on a weak Free Agent Class
2. We have money during a strong Free Agent Class next year
3. We get an unprotected draft pick from a team that is an ankle injury away from being lottery bound
4. We lock in minutes for our youth to develop
5. Corbin will be in his second consecutive year without a playoff bound squad and may have to pack his bags (NEAT!) This will prove true in particular if he pisses off the new vets as he has done in the past (see Watson, Millsap, Bell). Corbin may be stupid enough to play the vets lots of minutes to win a couple more games... sealing the deal for Popovich to join the Jazz in 2014.
6. Our youth may not have winning records so they will likely cost a little less to extend
7. We get tons of picks and flexibility
8. 2014 Lottery Bound is very likely with a possibility at 2 x Lottery Picks in a 'Super Draft'
9. And I like Brandon Rush too.

We look a LOT more like the Supersonics recently turned OKC today than we did yesterday.

This represents aiming for the RING. It is not a 'content with mediocrity' move.

Excellent post. Welcome to the board. At first reading about the trade on the ESPN ticker it sound like a bad deal for the Jazz but now that I have read the details I think this is a brilliant move by the Jazz.

As a side note: I can't say we really helped GS get better either. Iggy added to Klay and Barnes seems like a lot of headaches and issues with managing egos/hurt feelings.

I think we ****ing fleeced them if these pics are indeed unprotected.

This is a great point. I can see Iggy stunting Barnes growth just like Jefferson and Millsap have for Favors and Kanter.

Can you imagine if Curry/Bogut goes down and the Tankers miss the playoffs? Then the Tankers get the 1st pick and SLC will erupt with laughter never heard in human history.

Also another factor is how happy/unhappy does this make Barnes. Now he may be coming off the bench. The worse thing is GS didn't get Howard. LMAO so there not a sure bet to make the playoffs.

Excuse my newbie ignorance but you can trade a $788K guy for a $4M guy, $9M guy, $11M guy and 2 draft picks?

I am not complaining because we will be loaded with picks in a talented year. And maybe we can showcase one of these guys and get a trade for another draft pick from a team looking to make the playoffs.
But I thought contracts had to match within a certain amount.
