What's new

What do you consider a "failed" offseason for the Jazz?

If Rudy wins defensive player of the year again this year or makes an all NBA team then he will be eligible for a supermax extension next summer and I believe Donovan will be eligible for a max extension next summer. We have to get something significant done this summer. No more kicking the can down the road.

Also it's bizarre how some people on JazzFanz hate the Exum contract and think he's overpaid but are content on doubling down on the Exum cost by wanting to trade him. If he's as terrible of a deal as you're all suggesting then he's going to cost picks to move, Jazz are better off just eating his 2 year deal and hoping those two - three week flashes of brilliance he shows every year pan out to be more substantial than that unless you know you can land a big time FA and need to clear his deal off the books to free up room for him.

So would be down with trading him as well it sounds like.

Surprised nobody has stated the one thing that actually matters. This off season will be a failure if Mitchell does not take a step forward.

The Jazz need a #1 guy to be a contender. They are not in a position to get him in the draft or via free agency. Even if we get Conley or Tobias, we still aren't a contender unless Mitchell to develops into an elite player. So for me, if Mitchell shows signs of being a top 15 player this off season will be an incredible success, even if nothing else works out.

Terry Rozier, keeping Favors, and Exum being “important.” Good ****ing night.

We need shooting and playmaking... those three guys don’t do that...

I have a new question... why do we take players and try and turn them into something they aren’t. Like if you want a dog for a pet you don’t go get a hamster and try and turn it into a dog... it may become the most dog like hamster ever, but you could still just try and get a dog... I really need to see what happens in July because it may completely change the way I view DL... have given benefit of the doubt on 80% of his stuff. If we roll essentially the same group forward then I think he may just be an indecisive wuss...

What about Favs has changed so drastically this year that makes us want to keep him long term... or on his one year deal? If he was in the plans last year I’m sure he would have taken a 4/50 type deal that could descend and it’d be a better asset... but DL is a little scared to push assets in long term because of flexibility... unless it’s for Exum???? An injury plagued unproven talent???

I just... I don’t get it... is it July 1 yet.

His post all star play and being healthy going into the offseason lead me to believe he can be close to what he was post AS break more consistently.

This is a key component as much of where we go depends on his development.

I'm so done talking about how to make Derrick Favors work here.

We have two pillars... Rudy and DM... Favs is a good player but he does not work well with those guys and in fact really hurts what they can do... so maybe just call it... ya know.

The DM Favs minutes were not good Locke hit on it in his deep dive on DM. We all know how Rudy and Favs are not ideal. Trust the data.

Everyone: I co-sign virtually everything HH says. Just know that ahead of time.

I think I've somehow gone to one of the bigger Exum supporters on the board because everyone has completely turned on him. I think he's still super valuable as a defender against the best teams. No point in selling low on him.
I think the idea of not selling low is appropriate when you’re talking about can’t-lose scenarios. Like, there’s no reason to sell low because you won’t get anything, and there’s nowhere to go but up. However, I think of Exum less as a deflated stock and more as an overpriced time share. Any way you slice the sale of a time share, you’re ‘selling’ low because of the cost, but there’s also a cost and obligation to keeping it — enough so that you’re willing to take a loss to get out.
