Three things...
1. Embid set a precedent. He wasn't worth the contract he got BUT he got it with lots of milestones. In short, if he is injured too much he loses a ton of the money in his contract. Exum and jabari will get the same types of stipulations in their contracts, no doubt.
2. Dennis values exum. He has spoken about it. He likes him and believes in him. But Dennis goes to a certain point and doesn't move from there. See George Hill. Exum is seeking big money per rumors earlier this season. Dennis will set a number and won't breach it.
3. When a player can't renegotiate a big, long term contract then they go for a big short term contract. Examples? Mendacious... (auto corrected from kentavious... but i liked it enough to keep it) like I say... mendacious Caldwell Pope couldn't get $17 million x 3 - 4 years in detroit. He took $17 million x 1 year in La La Land.
4. The market is cold enough that the jazz can wait it out like Memphis did with jamychal green. He got less there than on the open market but his value didn't drop more than a few million really.

I added a 4th thing for good measure...
As such, I expect the $8 million range with required minimums to be a good starting point for a conversation. But the last 15 games will be big for him. If he wants $15 We just tell him we love him and good luck. If he wants $9 then the incentives would have to be pretty high. Tbd.
