What If Corbin Messes It All Up Again?

By giving al and sap big minutes last year he pumped up their value and they left with raises. As frustrating as it seemed last season having free agents leave with a positive attitude about the jazz is only going to help them acquire better ones in the future. Benching guys in the final year of their contract could have had repercussions for years to come. give ty a break.

I'm no fan of Corbin, but I'm letting the optimism run a bit this season. I have my reservations that he'll **** it up, but it seems like he'd really have to try this time.

I am going to give Corbin the benefit of the doubt here. I think our young guys will get the minutes they need and deserve this year. If not, Corbin will be gone.

The only setback I can see with these recent moves is that Corbin will probably get a pass this year in terms of wins and losses. Jazz would have to have a epic meltdown (like a 2-20 start) for them to ditch Corbin.

Taking that into consideration, Corbin has no reason to hand over major minutes to Jefferson or Beidrins or Tinsley. These guys are just place fillers for one year. There is no upside to playing them.

It seems to me Corbin's been on board with the youth-movement this summer. I know we blame him for the past--and favors should have been starting this year, for sure--but the rotations last season were largely a product of an uneven, middling it roster. Not just Corbin, but the FO was trying to have it's cake and eat it too. We've been transitioning from a team clinging to it's "competitive" low-playoff seed staple, to a team that's full-on rebuilding with higher future aspirations. I know the Corbin hate will happen regardless of what he does this season--with the fanbase, he's damned if he does or doesn't. When we lose a lot of games next season because we're playing a very young team, believe there are going to be calls for Corbin's firing. And if the fanbase feels one of the young guys got snubbed even a minute of playing time, they'll call for his firing. I remember times when the vets were playing well last year and people were pissed that the young guys weren't on the floor for the whole game.

I don't know if Corbin is our long-term coach or not, but I feel we should at least wait to see what he does with a team that's much more committed to a certain goal. There's no question whose team this is now, he won't have to deal with a veteran vs rookie locker room, he won't have to try to get the 8th seed even though we're clearly not a playoff team.

Because even last year the PR spin was that we were both competing and developing. Corbin and PR may define the word "development" much different than we do. After Favors' 23/15 or whatever it was where he was benched for the 4th and OT. The next day, the Jazz's media arm discussed how he got 26 minutes or whatever and that "that's youth movement right there!"

I just want to add that I don't think Corbin will start vets again. I don't see any reason for him to do that. But it seems like last year everyone was saying the same things before the season started (I've been reading JazzFanz for a long time). So I guess I just kind of want to remind people that this is a possibility.

I also think that people are getting a little too excited for Kanter and Favors. I think they will both be good players this coming season, but it seems like a lot of people are expecting them to be all-star caliber players from the start. For example in one of the other posts people were putting their predictions for Kanter. Someone put him down as averaging aroung 18 points and 11 rebounds. That seems extremely far-fetched seeing as big men don't put up the same large numbers as they used to. For example: this year only 3 centers averaged at least 18 ppg: Aldridge, Brook Lopez, and David Lee (who is labeled a center on ESPN. He always seemed like a power forward to me though). Al Jefferson was next with 17.8. In all, only 9 centers averaged at least 15 ppg. Overall individual player scoring is on a downward trend. Only 9 players averaged at least 20 points per game. In 2012 it was 12. In 2011 it was 19. The year before that it was 16 and the year before that it was 20.

The NBA goes through era's obviously, and we are entering a new era. Individual players aren't scoring as much, and centers certainly are not scoring as much as they were in say the 90's. I think we're getting our hopes too high for Kanter and Favors statistically, and we're setting them up to fail. I think one or both of them could put up dominant stats eventually, but I'm not certain it will be next year even if they start (once again I think they will). I don't want to be reading Jazzfanz next year about how much everyone hates Kanter and Favors because they didn't live up to expectations.
