You are a sucksessful Insurance agent. Who needs school when you got that. Seriously though, school is not for everyone.

I started as an agent, but I'm now a broker. It's the exact same thing, but BROKER sounds so much more Wall Street. It's all about cred, you know?

I'm sorry, I didn't realize you were new to message boards. You are supposed to kick people when they show even the slightest sign of weakness online.

Girl, I ain't down. Pfffsssshhhhh...

Well, I don't know that too many people enjoy school. It's a necessary evil to some extent. I took a few years off in between high school and college. If anything that made me see the need for college even more. Hats off for all you manual labor guys (there is something to be said for mindless work) but it's not for me.

Wow, that's not a backhanded compliment or anything. I actually still do landscaping with my brother every summer, and have been for 15 seasons now. My body aches, but it's far more rewarding both physically and mentally than my office job -- it doesn't hurt that it is financially superior as well.

If you think all manual labor is mindless work, you're a bigger dumbass than most of us thought. I am a manual laborer but it is far from mindless. As an electrician, my mind is constantly working to remember the codes that I have to follow, the rules for the different types of construction that I do, and I have to figure out the best/easiest/cheapest way to do every job. And I have to do all of this without a computer. In fact, I would bet that my mind is just active while at work than most of the people on this board (probably more active in your case). But thanks for being a jackass anyway.

He's probably talking about things like factory assembly lines and such? I wondered the same thing. Manual labor tends to be more mindful than most clerical work and plenty of office jobs.

I haven't chosen my level of education because I'm not sure which one I fall into. I have an AA and AS. Plus I have 4 years of technical trade training after that, plus all of my continuing education courses required by the state every two years.

Also, I disagree with your lumping of trade certificates with Associates Degrees. I am a journeyman electrician. To attain that, I had to complete 4 years of schooling along with 4 years of OTJ training. After that I had to pass a three part test (one part of which is a fail if you miss even one "question"). Not only that, but I am also required by the state to complete continuing education every two years, or I cannot renew my license.

I'm way too ****ing poor for college, and smart enough not to get myself into debt by going to college, right now, in this economy. I see way too many people unemployed with 4-6 years or college experience on their plate to jump back into school. I plan on going, just not until I feel the time is right. Will there ever be a "right time"? That's debatable.

I've got 8 months left of medical school, so technically just a BS at the moment. Not sure how to answer the poll.

Well if you're going to answer now, it should be BS. Or you could wait 8 months and then dig up this thread to answer.

I'll pass on both. I was noticing the other day that the Magic GM is 30. While I'm not that old, it got me thinking "how come I'm not a GM?" So I think I'm going to pursue that, but there's no option for it.

I saw that too. It was kind of depressing since I'm not too far away from 30, and I probably won't be an NBA GM by the time I get there.

What pissed me off was how far ahead of the game he was. I figured when I was 40. How'd he do it?

He played college ball and started with the Spurs as an intern right out of school. Apparently he just worked his a off and impressed everyone he worked with.

As a qualifier the Spurs and the Jazz are the only franchises I'd work for. Well, maybe that's not true.

If I had what I considered a good opportunity, I would work for nearly any team. I definitely wouldn't want to work for the Clippers or Thunder because they have d-bag level ownership.

On a side note, I don't know how some of these idiots (Kahn) that are journalists get the gig. Not that journalists are idiots, just those ones.

I'd work for any franchise, at any position. Yes, even the resident water boy. I love basketball.
