What upgrades are needed to make us a contender?

I'd take Lonzo if the Bulls decide to blow it up...

Simmons is poison apple. Posh fashion model who hates basketball. I will start rooting for the Nets or something if he is traded here.

AD is awesome at his best, and I love the unibrow, but he is made of the finest jade and there is something terribly wrong with his progression curve.
 
I maintain that our problem areas are at backup point guard and back up power forward. The quandary is in targeting expendable players with matching salaries to make those deals. My original assessment was flawed to the extent that I assumed that we could move off from our two grand statesmen (35 yr olds) without losing a beat. It’s obviously not an issue with Gay, but Conley has proven far too valuable to our winning formula to move off from if we want to continue winning. He won the game for us last night and he’s the first guy referenced by players like Sexton when talking about their development. Coach Hardy was even quoted as saying that he’s learned more from Conley than vice versa (tongue in cheek but there’s still obviously a lot of truth in it).

Fine. I guess who's to say in training camp how well things are going to work out -- probably went with straight up experience in the league -- but I think the sample size is sufficient. Agbaji's up. THT's gotta sit.

And while we're at it, couldn't we find a way to give Gay's minutes to Fontecchio? Simone is 1 inch shorter with waaaay more speed and hops. They're shooting the same % from 3, and Fontecchio isn't 50 years old with broken joints everywhere. I don't think Gay has improved his trade bait value with our showcase.

These are two guys who could be HUGE for us with experience under their belts. NAW with some more assertiveness and experience would be an upgrade to THT.




As an aside, the word Finocchio in Italian -- not his name, but similar -- means Gay... so that's another plus for the substitution.

Defense. THT plays really good defense. He is also capable of making plays in ways the end of bench guys aren't. He can also defend up a position.
