Top 25 protected that turned into seconds plus they wanted Bogey and to stick us with more salary. I think we can do better than that if we are patient, he is on a really, really good contract. I'd rather just keep him for garbage Suns deal.

Stick us with more salary? We would have saved money because we wouldn’t have had 3M guaranteed on the books next year.

Phoenix actually loves Shamet… he’s one of Monty’s favorites… and Monty probably has as strong a voice as anyone. The deal was Saric/ Crowder for Bogey/Vando and a first with substantial protections.

Even if the Phoenix first became seconds and we moved Crowder for additional seconds… it’s still okay compared to getting a helpful player and cash considerations.

I’m okay with waiting if there is a trade later… I think the mid season trade market could get more frothy if a team gets some momentum and wants to push a few more chips in.

Exactly. I’m just wondering with this additional salary is supposedly coming from when we actually save 3M next year and Vando’s salary too.

Lauri will not see X-mas in Jazz. He is far too good and will be sold.
Option for Danny sure, if somehow a bad team wants to part with a top 10 pick,on the day of the draft, with a guy they covet sitting there. But before that, it is not probable at all imo. If nothing else, he is one of a couple on this team, that are going to be seen as the new core players.
In fact, I am pretty certain outside of the man himself asking for a trade, he is going to be on this roster for another contract after his current one, provided he continues to play well.
He sits with value better overall than anyone you would get in return for him,at least without giving up draft picks or another young player, so why would he be moved at all outside of trying to make the team worse? Makes no sense to trade away a former lottery pick entering his prime for the chance to develop a rookie that might not be in the league in a minute.

Frank Layden said "You can't coach height."
Not to be a big skunk at the picnic but I'm pretty sure the quote was: "you can't teach height".

PS I see where on page 16 of this thread you actually correctly picked the three waived players citing the same logic that @campaignist had employed. I actually agreed with you stating that ideally Gay gets cut instead of Johnson. (Tennis players are good at patting themselves on the back cause we do it every time we serve.)

Maybe.

I honestly don't think there is an untouchable on the roster with *maybe* the exception of someone like Kessler as he's only entering year 1 of his rookie scale contract. He should still be under their control when they start winning again.

Vandy expires in '24. Markk in '25. If we get to 2023 or 2024 with no franchise player on the horizon I could see a scenario where Lauri is potentially traded before he becomes an expiring contract. OTOH maybe we end up with Victor so they decide to keep all the high end roleplayers such as Lauri. It's really impossible to say at this point although I'll predict that Lauri is still here on Christmas unless something unpredictable happens in the next few months.

If DA trades Lauri its cuz he got a decent haul. Like if he netted both Lakers picks or two other unprotected picks elsewhere. I think he puts up 20+ pts and 8-9 rebs per game and ends up increasing his trade value pretty significantly.

We will find out in about 30 mins if Johnson or Butler were picked up off waivers.
