Who in the FRUMP are we actually going to beat?

Hey folks... Long time, no post.

But seriously now... WHERE ARE WE GOING TO GET WINS OUT OF THIS TEAM? I have heard predictions as high as 45 wins and as low as 25 wins from so called experts. But, how? Who can we beat? We'll put up a fight against the Bobcats, 76rs, Suns, Pistons, and other bottom dwellers, but about 12 Western Conference Teams figure to be competing for playoff spots come February/March.

Our brave coach has a backbone made out of sopping wet spaghetti, our youth movement is over rated on this forum based on the pre-season performances (barring Kanter to date). The bench is TURRIBLE. And the point guard position has MAJOR question marks. How about 4rth quarter closers? We have Hayward who is a good player, but hasn't shown above avg. Clutch capabilities.

I figure the vast majority of our wins will be defensive stops w/ transition on our home court. Will we win more than 7 games on the road? Will we win more than half of our home games? Perhaps some folks want to spend some time breaking down the season game by game to anticipate wins and losses. I really see us in the 24 - 26 wins at the end of the season range.

Hollins / Wiggins 2014

That would make everything worthwhile. Damn, would adding those two change the quality of this team. Even if you don't do much with the Golden State pick, adding a dynamic player like Wiggins and a gritty, veteran coach like Hollins would be HUGE for the young core moving forward. Both pieces would help Kanter, Favors, Hayward, Burks and Burke with their development.

I hope they play hard this year and try to win as much as possible, but lets face it. . .

. . . They're not winning a lot of games this season. And it's okay for that to happen.

If we suck hard enough can we get the #1 and #2 picks?

I <3 the OP.

This
And I would like to add that if we get wiggins then it will all be worth it.

Lebron went to 2 finals in cleveland with a worse supporting cast than the jazz have by far.
And lebron was young as a mutha too.

We're getting Wiggins and then we can enjoy all the years of debating who's the 2 and who's the 3 between he and Hayward.

I can live with that. Andrew Wiggins is a rich-man's version of Harrison Barnes. It would be interesting to see the Jazz with a starting lineup of Kanter/Favors, Wiggins/Hayward and Burke. A good coach would be able to rotate that group and delegate responsibilities based on matchups. That would be kind of neat. Of course, you'd have to land Wiggins and a good coach first.

A rich man's Barnes is putting it lightly.

after we have Tytanic take us to the bottom of the ocean,we need a new ship and a new captain to lead us through the future icebergs.Ty wont get us anywhere but a good draft pick.new coach next year, then I will have hope.

Closing is a team job... yes, the hero makes the shot, but executing the offense gets them that shot. That's what everybody seems to miss. Even in the Stockton and Malone days, plays were ran to get a specific player a shot.

I the FEW preseason games we have had, we really only got to see closing once (last game). Folks want to jump on Hayward for not closing, but they only executed one play down the stretch (where Favors got the dunk) and it was set up by the offense, ran through Hayward. We need all five players to execute the offense against a defense that knows whats coming... which means execute the offense to perfection.

That is why we are not going to win close games. If it was all about a one-on-one game, then we could just throw the ball to Burks and get out of the way (and hope its a night that he's on). That just not how the Jazz play, and that's not how championship games are played (unless you have Jordon, LeBron or Kobe on the team... but even then the other players knew where to be to stay out of the way while still being in position to get an offensive rebound).

Some questions are about player talent, but on this team its about team cohesion and ability to execute. There are going to be a lot of losses, but I don't expect to see the same team the last 10 games of the year that we are seeing now. I expect we will win some close games by then based on offense execution.

We can beat anyone at home. We may not reach everyone expectations night after night, but we are going to have some MONSTER nights(esp at ESA).

Our team will go through growing pains, but we'll see flashes of it come together. If we put it together around the all-star break
we could make a run for the playoffs. I think it all depends how Favors develops. He is the biggest wildcard question mark for me after
watching a few pre-season games.

The Jazz can beat:

Charlotte
Milwuakee
Sac-Town
Phoenix
Nawlins
Denver
Philly
Toronto
Detroit
Lakers
Boston

The occasional win against a better team like Memphis, Indy and Brooklyn.

Preseason means squat. Burke getting hurt didn't help but the Jazz still have a tough home court. Besides the team will get better as they learn how to play. I believe Rush and Marvin Williams will help out the bench. I hope that Burks gets to play off the bench because I think that is his best role. He could be the main bench scorer. I have no idea how many games they will win.

For me what I am looking for is improvement as individuals and as a team. I would rather be rebuilding then renting vets with the hope that we make the playoffs. Just making the playoffs is worse than sucking because a team has no hope in the NBA when they are average especially if you are a small market team like Utah.

Are you saying the Jazz "should" beat or "can" beat the bolded teams?

This Jazz team is going to be bad. I'd be surprised if they won 30+ games.

The Jazz can beat anyone on any given night like any NBA team.

The bolded teams are ones that the Jazz should have a reasonable chance against anytime they play. Where as teams like Miami, Chicago, Memphis and OKC are more unlikely.
