FWIW - Neto's clearly above-average at jumping passing lanes. He deserves an adjustment period too, can't kill him for what he does on his first try defending starting NBA PG's that's not fair, it doesn't matter that he's starting, he's just a 23 year old rookie.
I kinda think this is being done on purpose tbh. Silent tanking strategy, been calling it since the summer.. If Neto pans out as the 3rd string PG moving forward, Harpring and Boller will talk all about the great experience he got starting..
I like the plan if thats what it is, its devious and just might be the best course of action. The Jazz don't just have the Warriors to fear in the west. These matchups vs OKC and the Spurs are kinda telling tbh.
If Neto keeps shooting 38% from 3 he's not going anywhere.
I'm just a few minutes into this 1st Q and felt the need to stop it and already declare that the Jazz would've been better off starting Alec though.
To me it's like the other teams know they can pounce on the Jazz early. Or like if they stumble out of the gate, there's nothing to press about because the Jazz won't pull away.
It's not so much about what the offense or defense looks like with Alec, it's what the opponents defense looks like vs Alec as opposed to Neto. Simply put the defense can play Neto on their heels for the most part, When Alec's got the ball on the perimeter he can draw so much more attention in a split second. Also when the shot clock is running out they'd be so much better off with Alec in the game -- A younger me who really cared about the teams performance on a day-to-day basis would've really hated this, because Alec is obviously better.
