Wow, you never get this amount of detail on trade talks. Woj is the best.

Funny how Sac is a dump, almost ruined the day for everyone.

Worth noting is how important personal relationship are for making deals happen (e.g. Zanik with Altman). Makes me wonder what are the GM's first reaction when someone like Ainge, Morey or Hinkie (in the past) calls. DL seems like a great guy who would build strong relationships with other GMs

I hope he finds continued success, and I hope it's enough to keep LeBron in Cleveland. I hate to see the stars heading for the lakers, or heaven forbid the Warriors. It would be nice to see James finish his career in the Land.

The 2024 2nd round swap makes more sense now. I wonder what DL sees on the horizon? That almost sounded like a deal with the Devil almost....

In 2024? There's absolutely nothing that anyone, no matter how polished, is going to see that, six years out, they think they can land player X by possibly jumping some slots in the second round. We don't even know who will be taken in the second round this year. It's more like getting a rebate on your refrigerator that's redeemable for $30 in five years. You have no idea what you're going to spend that on, but you may as well claim it and maybe it will buy you a nice meal that night.

Well, it's likely LBJ will be retired at that point and the Cavs, as mediocre as they have been without him, will suck balls. So I guess he is banking on jumping from say 50th to 35th or so. Not a big deal but just a little perk for our trouble (1M).

Also worth noting that the Jazz ended up recouping that money, as they saved about 3M in salaries with the trade

I find it interesting that the Kings were so hell-bent on getting that money back when they just bought out JJ.

A great read. LoL at the Kings not wanting to waive its own player due to not wanting to be embarrased.

Pretty true, actually. I'd actually like to see a study on if the fact if the GM's are cool with each relate directly to how well a deal work for each team. Right now, the Hood/Crowder swap seems to be working well for both teams.

I think he gave back more money than expected too... Hey Kings if you want to be cheap asses then maybe don't sign Hill and Randolph to huge overpriced deals.

This... it's also a negotiation tactic to make sure that people don't feel they can walk over you. I have clients that sometimes pushback/negotiate on fees... I will usually concede if fair, but get some terms I want.

Completely and utterly blown away that the Vlade/Vivek brain trust is somehow incompetent.

Sacramento's scouting and talent evaluation department must spend all day watching YouTube highlights and asking commenters if they think they'll be a good basketball player.

I think that would be more effective than their strategy of drafting guys that might be worth a second round flier in the lottery.

In their defense in a vacuum that draft trade they made was solid. Getting the 13th pick and Bojan was good... just pooped the bed on the pick.

They also got a 1st for Marco belineli, so look blind squirrels do find nuts sometimes, but sometimes those squirrels roll those nuts in dog doodoo before eating.

It really does never get old. What a hot mess of a front office. Would sell my soul to see footage of the lead up to the Jazz trading up for and taking Donovan Mitchell though.

Would sell the souls of everyone on Jazzfanz for footage of the Nuggets war room leading up to that trade too.

    My favourite part.

A former MVP and an 8-time All-NBA player and the Jazz all like "We're just going to waive your trash one way or another." I love this organization. There are teams in the NBA that'd be so tempted by former, very faded glory to keep these dudes.
