What's new

You're the GM this offseason. What do you do?

How is that obvious?

Walt Perrin indicated they thought there were guys they like available around where we are picking... I think we are looking to move the pick for something to help win now, but I think if nothing good comes up they are fine making the pick.

I basically think if we move the pick it is for Conley... Woj mentioned again last night that we are still looking at Conley when saying we might move the pick.

I'd take Love, only if he is essentially free, after all other options have passed.

I think we could use our space more responsibly on 3rd or 4th tier free agents and be a lot better off.

Nah... we aren't taking dead salary for picks. Just use the space on good players... we need good players, not picks that could turn into good players someday. We are past that part of the build. If we miss on guys in the tier of Gay/Beverly and want to take on salary for a pick then the player needs to be able to at least be a rotation piece (like marvin Williams or Kelly Olynyk). There are a couple guys I like that will go before we pick like Nickeil Walker Alexander, but some of the dudes that @Saint Cy of JFC is pimping like Weatherspoon and Terrence Davis are just as intriguing imo. I don't see a big benefit in moving up and taking ugly salary to do it right now.... honestly I'd rather move back into the 30s and get something extra for the trouble.

I just don't see the players we are definitely adding in free agency. Sure we might get a Beverley, but I'm not sure why he is leaving the Clippers and how much would that cost us? Same with Gay.

I don't want to take back a monster deal (Parsons, Whiteside, etc.) but I think taking back the right $10-13 million deal could work well for us (MKG, Olynyk, Leuer, etc.). I would rather have the guy we traded up for AND still have $25 million than not have any player we traded up for AND no good free agent signing.

That wasn't what he said doe... I'd rather keep Favs than trade for Love... Love has one of the worst contracts in the NBA... He's one injury from having to add multiple picks just to have off the books.
I know, but what I'm saying is that if you're saying keep Favors because it's a better option than Love, you may as well waive Favors and sign Jabari. I know the FO doesn't feel that way, but bringing back Favors is pretty pointless at this point.

I think 10M on a 1+1 for Bev is close... Rudy 15M 1+1 is close... might have to be 2+1 in both cases, but I would love the fit with the starting lineup. If it netted an extra pick I'd take on salary I guess, but I don't see a need to move into late lotto in this draft. I'd rather try and do a deal with Philly or Atlanta that have multiple seconds or trade the first for Phoenix second this year and next. I just think the draft is pretty flat. I don't think we'd get two seconds this year because we may end up with a roster spot crunch.

Moving up is sexy AF, but moving back might be the move.

I know what both of you are saying... it was just two different things and I was pointing that out. You know I'm firmly on the "waive Favs and move on" bus.

Last year we needed to do some mild retooling but we ran it back. This year we need to do some pretty major overhauls but I feel we'll end up doing some minor retooling if we aren't moving for someone like Love or Conley. We seem to be a year behind. I suppose next year we'll do some major overhauls by default, but the good options don't seem to be there.

**** it. Just draft Bol Bol and make him a 4.

Here's my trade of the day that people will either hate or love.

Exum and #23 for Bjelica and #40

At #40 one of Paschall, Davis, Weatherspoon, Admiral will be available. We get a good stretch 4 to start the games and keep Jae in his role... save a little money and use our space to sign a pg or trade for Mike Conley using space and picks.

Not using the MLE last year was a little short-sighted. Plenty of dudes that could help were out there for reasonable prices.

I just haven't given up on Exum yet so I think a trade like this goes in the wrong direction.

Bjelica is a lot like Mirotic for me. Solid player, helps us in spots, but seems like a guy who is planted on the bench in a tough playoff series.
