What's new

You're the GM this offseason. What do you do?

If Favors isn't in the discussions I wonder if the Jaz could extend him at a lesser rate? What would the process need to be to restructure favors? Do they Jazz have to pick up his option... Would Favors extend to a 4 year deal for less money per year? If he likes it here he may want the security, but is it realistic?

I wonder if the Jazz have found the foundation of a trade package Memphis likes AND allows them to keep Favors. It would make them pushing for this trade before even looking at free agency make a lot of sense.

If I recall correctly Favors' deal is a non-guaranteed contract rather than a team option. Consequently he cannot be renegotiated, he can only be guaranteed or dropped. The only way he could be on the Jazz for less money next year than currently planned is if a) the Jazz don't guarantee his contract, b) he passes through the waiver wire without another team picking up his current deal, and then c) he agrees to a new contract with the Jazz for less money.

Isn't there a rule, though, that you can't sign someone you've waived for a year?

We're trying to contend not rebuild. We're past the stage of eating bad contracts for meh picks.

Ilyasova just played in 15 playoff games at 18 minutes per game for the #1 seed who made it to the Eastern Conference Finals. He's not some bum. Considering our needs at "stretch 4", I think he would be a wise addition at $7 million if he came with a 1st rounder.

Not sure. I think I've read things both ways with regards to Favors.
@infection, Looking for a bit just now, I couldn't find a rule. The closest I got was this from question 101 of the FAQ, http://www.cbafaq.com/salarycap.htm:

  • A team cannot reacquire a player it traded away during the same season (a season for this purpose being defined as starting on the first day of the regular season and ending on the last day of the Finals). If the player was traded between seasons (i.e., from the first day after the Finals to the last day prior to the start of the next regular season), it cannot reacquire the player prior to the end of the next season. If he is waived by his new team, then he cannot re-sign with his original team until the one-year anniversary of the trade, or until the July 1 following the end of his contract, whichever comes first6. However, if a team trades a player's draft rights, it can reacquire the player during the same season.

But that's about re-signing players that you have traded away. Not re-signing a player you have waived. Of course, it's possible I just didn't find the rule because the salary cap is so complicated.

Hmm... I'm trying to recall, but it seemed like this issue came up with Bolomboy.

We have like 8 threads going right now discussing the same stuff. Can we combine?

So Tony Jones said we are talking our #23 pick with Memphis. Discuss...

What if the Memphis talk isn't about Conley at all? What if we are trying to dump our bad contracts (Korver, Bradley) and #23 for Avery Bradley?

The guy is a warrior PG who doesn't have the have the ball in his hands. It's not a home run move, but he does have "Jazz DNA". If we traded Korver ($3.44) and Bradley ($2), Bradley ($13) would only use $8 million on Bradley.

We would still have max space for a run at Tobias who played with Bradley in a couple spots before....
