What's new

Zach Lowe on Trevor Booker

He does, but not to the extent that some of you are acting like. He's already earned a certain chunk, and am sure will earn the rest. This is a contract year. Acting like he won't play is absurd.

Nobody is acting like he won't play a lot of minutes. That's absurd.

But your campaign to enshrine Enes and celebrate all his accomplishments, and then coming onto jazzfanz to fight a strawman..... that **** is more absurd.

Man what part don't you understand,Booker wasn't signed to start.Booker gets 5 million this year and only guaranteed 600 thousand next year.Kanter is going to be the starter ,you might not like it but better get use to it.
read again bro:.
Booker can and will start if he earns it.
Playing slots are not delivered according to contracts, u know!
Kanter should start, that must be the plan.
But if he does not care, now Booker may push him out of the starting five.

Imo opinion, the way it will play out (and the way I would do it) is that favors and gobert will get all the minutes at center.
Kanter and booker will get the minutes at power forward.
Hayward and hood will get the minutes at small forward
Burks and exum well get all the minutes at shooting guard
Trey and exum well get all the minutes at point guard.

I don't see novak and Evans getting minutes unless it's a blowout or foul trouble or injuries.

I guess they might get minutes in rare situations but that is how I think the positions will go and how I think they should go

I like the simplicity of this, but think there are some issues. Shooting is needed desperately on this team, so Hood and Novak will need to get some time. How is Hood to get any time if he is only playing the SF behind Max-money Hayward? Additionally, there will be nights where the matchup makes more sense for players to play their second best position rather than their normal one. Also, from what I gather, Quin's style of coaching is more positionless than I think we're accounting for. It's more about basketball players than positions. I think we'll see primary roles for players, as well as secondary roles, hence a fluctuation between positions.

Huh?

We were having a discussion that you apparently haven't followed. To inform you, Green and GVC from this thread are skeptical about Kanter getting minutes. Others from the other Booker thread share this sentiment.

Cheers.

Also, injuries play a part. Minutes/per is not just distributed as 48 mins*82 games for 13/14 players. So players may average more than your distribution. We may even see something like SA where no one averaged 30 mins. I'm guessing with a more up-tempo, motion-heavy offense, players will be subbed more often.

As for Hayward/Hood, I think Hood gets all his minutes at SF, but Gordon plays some SG. I don't see Exum getting a ton of mins at SG. He needs to master one position first. And he and Burke didn't play that well together during SL. Exum is a project; I could see Burke playing 30 mins and Exum 18, with the two occasionally playing together if one of the wings is out with an injury. Then, as Exum finds his game and shot, his minutes increase at the expense of Trey. I see a Green/Stockton parallel.

Yep. With injuries included, the typical minutes per position is more like 52 (I think).

Here is how I would do the rotations to start the year:

Burke (33 mins)/Exum (15 mins)/Clark (4 mins)
Burks (25 mins)/Hayward (10 mins)/Felix (7 mins)
Hayward (25 mins)/Hood (15 mins)/Novak (10 mins)
Kanter (25 mins)/Booker (25 mins)/Novak (5 mins)
Favors (33 mins)/Gobert (20 mins)

I really don't think you will see Burke and Exum together very much. Exum isn't physically ready for more minutes yet, and you don't want to hurt Exum's progression if Burke can't/won't defer. So, easy fix. Play them both as PG's, don't play them together, and after this year, next summer, and halfway through next year, let Exum get his body right, build up confidence against the opposing bench, if he is ready to start next December, move Burke to the bench or to another team. Easy fix.

I think this is how the pg minutes should go as well.
Another side effect off this is that treys value gets increased
