What's new

Barkley loves that Kanter-Trade...

My question is would Kanter have been a valuable piece to the Jazz in three years if they are one of the best teams in the West. Is it about getting to that point quickly or stepping up and playing really well when the time arrives? Kind of harsh, but I'm not sure he has the mental capacity for that.

Well, we will see now. He's on a championship caliber team... lets see if his play improves and if he rises to the challenge.

Of course he took the best deal offered. I never said any different. Cleveland did not call offering lebron and Dennis said no I think I will take the crap offered by OKC instead. What the jazz should have done is say if all im offered is crap I wont trade him. You offer a 4 year 40 million dollar contract in the off-season. If kanter gets a better offer you then decide whether to match. It gives you time. You dont take the used toilet paper offered by OKC and try to sell jazz fans that we got a good deal.

But if all that was offered on the open market for Enes Kanter was crap, then that was his worth, crap. Again, holding onto him so that maybe, just maybe, you could eek out a little more value is not wise. And you are also ignoring the value of him being gone, now. Holding him longer to get a little better crap hurts the team, and not worth the extra crap. His value could have actually gone down, if he continued to play bad D and fail to pass the ball. In addition, he has been injury prone and you never know when that could crop up again. Move forward, cut your losses.

Barkley is 100% correct to love kanter. As a jazz fan I always thought kanter was much better than some on this board. I hate the trade. We got pennies on the dollar for a player I think is soon going to explode. For those fans who say he cant pass I think you will see his assists jump by 1 to 1.5 higher than it was with the jazz simply because he can pass to better jump shooters. I saw kanter pass from the post to jazz players who couldn't throw a ball into the ocean standing on a beach. I for one will miss him and will follow him at OKC. It should be a Sad day for all jazz fans because even those that despised him have to realize we got virtually nothing useful from the trade except maybe more playing time for gobert.

I agree somewhat with Oldtimer. We might've been better to stand pat on this, and attend to this in the summer. Kanter actually was showing improvement, I thought, especially around the basket. I don't understand why people didn't notice that. He hasn't been getting blocked so much and his moves have become so much smoother and more fluid. I think what forced this was the emergence of Rudy, which for the Jazz is a good thing. But I don't think they handled the Kanter situation well. They said they weren't going to give him up for nothing, but the end result is that they basically did -- well, not nothing but surely pennies on the dollar.

How does holding him hurt the team. Just give the Jazz longer to evaluate Kanter. Maybe they could've done a sign and trade. Apparently, he did have value, as we see now that there were multiple teams interested in him.

I'm a fan of this trade, but I also recognize that the trade is not representative of his true value as a player. His value in this trade is diminished by the fact that he's going to be a restricted free agent at the end of the season. It's a big unknown what his value is going to be once he has the whole league sending offers his way. Some think that he may get something closer to the max ... others think it won't be anywhere near that. Any team that would like to retain his services still can at the end of this season. Why would any team put something of significant value at the trade deadline?

I mean, we don't even know if OKC will be willing to retain him if he gets some ridiculous offer. I'm sure this trade will look a lot different if that happens.

Kanter is going to play for the QO so he can try to put up big numbers next season and get a huge contract in 2016.

Did we want to be the ones to allow him to do that?

Kanter will be a stud in OKC. Utah will regret the loss of Enes every time they play.

#Nets prepared an offer of Kendrick Perkins expiring contract and at least 2 players from their roster in exchange for Enes Kanter

The #Nets were very close to acquiring R.Jackson and Enes Kanter for B.Lopez and 2 low level players on their roster

But then the Thunder decided they an opportunity to steal Enes Kanter for very little in return so they removed Nets from discussions

And dealt directly with Utah. They then returned to Detroit and Indiana who had previously made offers for Reggie Jackson

They briefly discussed a package with them before deciding on the Pistons package.

Nets GM Billy King was very creative yesterday and almost pulled off a great trade but it ended up backfiring on him

Do you remember the two teams I told you guys that Enes will probably go and would be best for him for months?

I look forward to watching Pleiss dunk on Kanter and then knee his skinny kneecap into Kanter's scumbag nose!

They had 3.5 years to evaluate him and I think they kinda knew what they were going to get. Of course there was value and it was what we got for him. Now I know a lot of the professional GMs here at jazzfanz thought he was worth a lot more, but they were not in DLs shoes.

How does it hurt them? Keeping a malcontent, playing him minutes over guys who fit better, not knowing what you have in exchange for him for planning and strategy. Lots of ways. You guys who think he was worth a lot more on Feb 19, 2015 are just wrong. Addition by subtraction, moving forward, cutting losses.

For the record, I think Kanter will be a good fit in OKC.

I do too.

I think trades can work out well for both sides, which is what the responsible parties must think since, you know, they make the trade and all.

I think Kanter will get easy layups and get Westbrook and Durant open looks.
It's a good move for OKC for sure. Kanter's one of the most efficient post scorers in the league.
Kanter fits in OKC better than he fits in QS's system in Utah.

The only question is the cost and the opportunity cost. The Jazz just flat-out didn't want to pay Kanter. We'll have to see what happens in free agency.

So everyone who is saying this, are you saying we should have parted ways with Favors instead? Or Gobert? You gotta pick one, as it was pretty obvious we were not keeping all three. IMO both Gobert and Favors have a stronger impact on the game than Kanter. And the winning and defensive improvement we have shown especially since the trade prove that out.

This is beating a dead horse. Ideally it would have been fantastic to have 3 young and strong bigs, rotating, pushing each other to get better, etc... But alas the 3 young guys wanted to be alpha and there were only 2 alpha spots. Kanter, and I can understand him, felt himself being slotted in the beta spot and said no. c'est la vie. Any sensible Jazz fan will agree that the Kanter trade wasn't the best solution by far, but you can't make people play roles they don't want to play.
