The show writers have proven they're pretty terrible when they don't have GRRM's script to go off of. They ruined all of Dor e, haven't really even touched on the Greyjoy's, pretty much ruined Sansa's character and they haven't made Jaime much better either.

I hope GRRM finishes soon so the show doesn't ruin his story.
 
First of all, let me say that I have not read the books, and I do not care whether the show diverges from them or not. Secondly, GoT is probably my favorite show of all time. Third, I thought season 5 was pretty good, and I loved the finale (specially the walk of shame!). That being said, I agree with what's being said about plot development and pacing. This is baffling since the show is more or less caught up with the books, and it will be anywhere between 5-50 years before GRRM releases the final two.

They could have filled more time this season by properly developing Stannis' story, and left the battle for next season to do it justice. They could have done a lot more to develop the relationship between Stannis and his daughter, instead of just one quick scene that shows the he cares about her, then abruptly setting her on fire. And I know that Shireen is still alive in the book. But given the fact that GRRM worked closely with the writers and gave them an outline of what he's planning in book 6, I'm pretty sure Melisandre will sacrifice her to resurrect Jon Snow or some ****.

Over all I'm very pleased, but things could have unfolded more naturally with better pacing.

Yup. I am also one that has not read the books so I DO NOT give a **** if they have followed them or not. GOT has done an exemplary job this season and the last 3 episodes were god damn great. Cersei has great **** and an adorable ***.

They used a body double. I actually checked.

Yes. In fact, rewatch that scene more carefully and you will notice the CGI. I didn't notice it myself the first time around, but it's unmistakable if you already know about it.
 
Just watched the finale. Forgot about it last night.

I'll say one thing: Lena Headey is one brave actress.

And yeah, I'm not convinced Jon isn't gonna come back... I smell a Melisandre resurrection.
 
Anyone have any guesses where the show goes next year? Do you think they spend some time on some of the dropped storylines or do you think they go full steam ahead?

I wonder how many seasons they plan the show to run? Is that public knowledge? I mean, I think with as far forward as they pushed the story at best they've got three more seasons. They have said that they are ending the story in the same place as the books.

Given how much they compressed the last couple of books, it's possible they could end it in one. I wouldn't expect the show to extend beyond season seven, at the most.

I think they'll continue the Arya storyline as it appeared in the books -- that's really the only one they haven't caught up to (book five basically begins where the show has left off, with Arya blinded). The only other stuff in the books that I can see them maybe covering in season six is all the Iron Isles stuff that they left out (i.e. Victarion Greyjoy and all that stuff). Then again, they may just leave that entire plotline entirely cut out from the series. Who knows?
