Marijuana: Facts, Myths, and plain old Stupidity.

I would like to understand why we have a hang-up on medicinal marijuana when other prescription drugs (e.g., opioids) are far more addictive and dangerous. Is there some good reason for allowing the latter but not the former, other than some kind of irrational opposition to marijuana?

I'm dead serious. What's the difference here?

Marijuana causes white women and black men to have sex with each other. Duh.

So in other words, there's not really a good reason to prohibit prescription of medicinal marijuana, while at the same time, allowing the prescription of opioids or other potentially harmful drugs?

I've yet to see someone articulate a good reason why marijuana should be treated differently, but surely someone has, right?

You must have missed CJ's post...

I don't believe this at all. Admittedly, I have not delved deep into the research on this subject. Perhaps you have some data that backs up your assertion.

Edit: I have never used it, for whatever it's worth.

My post was obviously sarcasm. The 2nd sentence was so over the top it is ridiculous anyone would believe.

I can think of two:

1. There are no effective substitutes for opioids; modern surgical procedures are basically impossible without them. While many doctors and patients have found many medical uses for cannabis, it doesn't serve as necessary a function as opioids (MS sufferers might disagree somewhat). Presumably, there are also substitutes for cannabis in treating these ailments.

2. It's more difficult to produce high strength opioids for personal use -- how many people have a backyard opium garden for the production of heroin/morphine? -- than it is to produce high strength cannabis. The opiate addict frequently has to deal with pretty shady characters to get a relatively expensive fix, so many might consider treatment the easier option. Consumers of cannabis can find it anywhere at a reasonable price from relatively normal people or just grow it themselves.

...I have yet to see/hear someone "articulate" PERIOD, who is a regular majiushee smoker!!!

My skill is in writing, a skill I possess in spades over you.

Though the older I get and having kids the less of a regular smoker I am. I went from a daily smoker to 3-4 times a week, mostly on the weekends when I can stay up later.

Never smoked it before. I was at a rap concert once and could see others all over the arena smoking. I also don't care if people use it. It's a personal choice just like drinking.

I had a friend who was a "botanist". Think he may still be. Don't see him much anymore.

So you do not think cancer victims should be allowed marriawana? Opioids are for surgery and also hospice like in Europe. Why does USA not give chronic ill patients low grade heroin? This is like torture I think.

Heroin and opiates are pretty much the same thing. You'd probably have a harder time getting a pack of juicy fruit than a prescription for opiates, and you have to pay for the juicy fruit all by yourself.

1. a. Cannabis has been shown to reduce opioid dependency in people that suffer chronic pain.
b. Opiods are not a safe treatment option for people with a history of opioid abuse.
c. I was pretty sure that the only reason the Utah legislature passed a law for cannabis oil is because it was shown to be the only effective treatment for certain kids that have seizures.

2. Apples and oranges. Comparing chronic to heroin is silly. Srsly do a google image search for heroin junkie and marijuana junkie/stoner/pothead.

marijuana junkie lol

For clarification, I'm just giving reasons why someone might want to treat them differently. I think all recreational drugs should be decriminalized.
