Woj: Celtics working to land both Gordon Hayward and Paul George

I would reverse those - the second worst thing is if he leaves. The worst thing is if they make short term moves to appease him and he leaves.

It was clunky as I was writing... I was considering them independent bad things but you are correct sir.

Basically if u think he's leaning towards leaving then don't chase good assets after bad.

The exception to me is Beverly. If u can get him for the OKC pick do it. He could be moved later for equivalent value if there is an injury or a team misses out on a FA target.

Or u keep him... just build a whole team of mother effers Bev, Ingles, Gobert, and I think mitchell will end up being a bulldawg... he seems Hungry!

There won't be a sign and trade with Hayward. If Gordon is making this move to win now, he isn't going to require Boston to blow assets on getting him.

They can't get both Hayward and George without trading away pieces. A S&T isn't the craziest thing (though Indy has a better chance at good pieces).

What's the move you think that will make Hayward stay? Do you think adding Ricky Rubio sways him one way or the other?

I don't necessarily, I think the moves would be in FA (resigning Hill, Ingles, Millsap deal possibly?). Maybe a move for Danny Green could help?

I'll be honest, if we got Crowder+ in a S&T I wouldn't be completely heart broken. Dang good player, great deal.

I'm only interested in him as an asset to deal in a future trade. People fell head over heals in love with him last year when in reality he's an average role player.

That's the problem but there has been enough smoke to that type of rumor for me to believe that PG is a concern. I almost want to get one just so he can't use that as an excuse. I want to make this as hard as possible for him.

I would wait on Rubio... I think we could do a sign and trade with him and hill if Hayward left. Rubio would fit in perfectly in our 45 win treadmill team. :(

Bradley crowder likely go to Indiana for PG in the scenario being discussed. Can we do the 5th year and sign and trade... idk anymore but I think it's a no.

If we lose Hayward and Hill, why do you want Beverley? What does he accomplish for us, besides making our pick next year worse and taking away an OKC pick we can use to move up if we are not at the very top? We have Exum and Mitchell who are both defensive minded prospects and we get Beverley to clog their minutes in a year when we are not fighting for anything realistically?

We might do a sign and trade for a minor asset just to acquire a trade exception... although if we operate under the cap when Hayward leaves then it would go away.

Guys... it's all or nothing at this point... ain't no baby splitting.

You make some very good points. It really does hinge on Hayward. If he leaves, it's all about preserving future space and maybe collecting assets. Basically what DL's Jazz have been doing up until last season.

He's fun and I don't see us going far enough into the tank plus he could be moved later.

I know tanking is the smart thing to do here but we just won't do it well enough. I hate the idea of Hayward leaving and is rolling over. I kind of want to be the team that says eff you we will do it without you.

Kind of like when you'd break up with someone in high school and they acted like they didn't care... it's the Westbrook OKC method... the fine you are dead to me.

The thought of Gobert suffering through a tank makes me sad.

Are you sure? I was under the impression options had to be picked up no later than the end of June.

Yes. It's not an option but rather an unguaranteed year.

He would also leave us in the discussion cap space wise for Gallo or another second tier guy... third tier maybe... we won't rebuild through a tank... I feel strongly about it.

I'm starting to think that 5th year is going to keep him here. After 30 who knows what his health will be like, that extra year gives him additional security. I don't think its worth it to run to Boston and lose that 5th year hoping that the roster will be competitive enough to beat GSW. That isn't going to happen. Paul George is a rental, even if they get him I don't think that is enough to lose that 5th year.

If he leaves I think its all about receiving the attention he thinks he deserves. Whether he knows it or not I think that increased attention and media coverage will not mesh well with Haywards desire to keep things private. Hell, he was even upset when it leaked that he was working with Kobe in the offseason according to Locke.

Has there been any mention from Paul George or his agent that George would be willing to forego some money to extend with the Celtics, given that he already knows he has a max deal waiting for him in LA next season?

I think he wants recognition... not attention per se... He will get less in Boston as third fiddle to IT and PG... Ask Horford how much attention/recognition he gets. Love and Bosh basically get roasted for being the third fiddle. His stats will decline and he will be regarded as less of a player.

I think Hayward wants the PO on the 5th year, and he wants to move on to Boston. I believe he has told Boston he will only do a sign and trade, and this Woj Rumour is Danny boy's attempt to bluff Hayward into signing outright.

"Gosh, Gordon, I know you would like us to do a sign and trade to help out the Jazz, and we really wanted to, but this thing came up with Paul George, he really wants to play with you here in Boston, but I can't trade for him if I do a sign and trade for you..."

I doubt Hayward is going to do us a solid while he lays a steamer on our chest.
