Jazz Sign Royce O'Neale

If Bolomboy gets cut here you could call it a fail as he got a fully guaranteed year and never made any impact on the main team.

Once upon a time I was on a flight from St. George to Denver and I started talking to the lady next to me. In our conversation I mentioned I was a Jazz fan. She was a PE teacher from California and JJ O'Brien went to her high school. She was good friends with his family and knew him pretty well. She told me he had some multi-year deal with the Jazz. I said, "Well, he signed a 10-day contract with a Jazz a while back and now he's playing for their DLeague team." She was like "No, he signed some deal with the Jazz."

The way I see it, one of three things is going on here.
#1. I know better than her and she really has no idea what is going on.
#2. JJ O'Brien signed with the Stars and either he or his family is trying to make it sound like he signed with the Jazz.
#3. There have been some kind of weird contracts available between NBA teams and their D-League teams that the public doesn't really know about.

I lean towards #s 3 and 2 (in that order). As highly as I think of my own intelligence, I'm just some joker fan who thinks he knows more than everyone else but really doesn't. She actually seemed pretty well connected and knew a few people in the league. Maybe there are contracts that we really don't know about.

As an example, I really have no clue about what's going on with Tyrone Wallace and Marcus Paige. Their contracts aren't really discussed publicly.

JJ signed a multi-year deal, it's just only 50K of it was guaranteed and he got cut during training camp (he also signed 10 days the season prior)

I'll wait until the contract is confirmed. A G League deal is guaranteed for $75k, so there might be a misunderstanding by the source who announced the signing.

But cutting Bolomboy would also make sense. Jerebko and Udoh were signed as backups and Bradley will be in the G League. It's not like Bolomboy will ever be able to be a stretch-4.

If I had to guess, O'Neale's contract is probably structured the same as Bolomboys. 3 years for 3 million w/ 600k guaranteed in the first year w/ 450K partially guaranteed in the 2nd year (for a total of a million guaranteed).

I think the jazz playing Bolomboy at PF this SL was a test and he failed it. W/ 3 good centers on the roster, the Jazz just dont need a 4th in Bolomboy. The league is trending small, so it makes sense to pickup another 3 rather than rostering four 5's.

But don't you also have to count guys like Pleiss, Tourey Murray (or however he spell it), that guy we got from the OKC trade, all the trash late 2nd round point guard picks, etc?

He picked Gobert out of thin air I give him that, but with every 1 home run there's been like 5-6 absolute duds.

Yeah but statistically is he in the middle of the pack, or better than most, or what exactly? Every year 60 players are drafted, how many pan out? How many signing are there? How many are stars, or role players, or even rotation players or end of bench guys? That is the question. I don't expect home runs on every move, but I would like to see some bold leaps every now and then at least.

Sportsnado is a pretty legit source and no one has disputed it. It makes sense, I believe it.

Sportsnado cited the Spanish reporter's tweet. Seems odd that none of our local guys have been able to verify anything yet - especially since they've all already verified the Eric Griffin signing.

This means Bolomboy will be released or a trade is coming. Neto isn't getting released.

Thanks for the info. So cutting Bolomboy would cost $450k?

I think DL is trying to do 2 things

1st - Prove that he is as good as the spurs in eyeing talent and finding that Danny Green, Jonathan simmons type of player. You have to admit the spurs seem to find these players that contribute that no one has heard of.

2nd - He has kept saying over and over that the Jazz want to be known as having the best developmental program in the NBA. That they want to be able to develop talent. This then brings us back to 1st

Don't know why Jazz signed this guy over Mbah a Moute.
