Utah Trade Deadline Discussion

Monroe took the money. What a douche. Had he started in NOLA and proved himself, he would have made more money this summer. Who advises these guys?

He took more money and a better chance at post season success. Sounds like 2 v 1. I don't fault him at all.

Also unrelated, twitter had a break down of trade chatter and it has Chicago and Denver as interested in Hood. Ben Dowsett retweeted it about an hour ago.

NOLA offered him a chance to start. In the playoffs, he won't play over Horford against small lineups.

Sure, he makes $2.8 more, but I think he gets more out of NOLA long term. Boston won't break the bank to keep him this summer.

A chance to fleece Denver again? Where do we sign up?

If I’m Orlando and looking to trade Gordon I’m looking for a few things:

- get a superstar (probably not happening)
- shed other future salary
- get draft picks back
- get young talent back

I think the Jazz can figure out a trade that would accomplish 3/4 there.

The Magic are shopping Gordon because they don't think he's a max player (he isn't) but some dumbass GM will probably give him a max offer as an RFA; thus losing him for nothing.

They're not bargaining from a position of strength.

Nah, that's not the reason. They are doing it because they signed too many crappy contracts and failed in the draft that they can't really improve their team and they know how flawed they are.

I really doubt they trade him unless they can move Biyombo with him, and I dont think any team wants to do that. The Magic suck at the draft, free agency, and the trade market. They made huge mistakes in all 3 phases so that's why they are looking to hit the reset button. Nothing to do w/ Gordon not being a max player.

Denver really doesnt make sense. They are going to hit the luxury tax next year unless they want to risk pissing of Nikola Mirotic (they can pay him next year, or accept his option which would make him a minimum contract player for another year and make him a UFA the following year). So why would they want to take on another player they would have to pay this year?

Only thing I could think of is if they want to get out of Paul Millsap since Lyles has exploded. That would save them 30 million next year and would save them from the LT.

But are the Jazz really excited about paying Paul Millsap 30 million next year? His last year is a team option, so that would be nice.

I would consider the idea of trading for Fournier, Biyombo and Gordon, but it would have to involve Rubio and Burks. Can't add those 3 and not drop them.
That’s exactly what has to happen for either team to be motivated to make this kind of deal. Gordon, Fournier and Biyambo for Rubio, Burks, JJ (plus cash to buy him out) and possibly some draft pick movement.

I probably keep Hood and Favors out of it and look to flip them for other assets instead. Either that, or I leverage them to keep my own pick(s) and/or add a pick if I’m able to extract one.

I’d probably take Millsap back.

Also, if Hood signs an offer sheet with a Chicago and we don’t match...

Aaron Gordon is uber athletic but he's a pure gunner rarely looking at his team mates accept maybe Fournier and Vucevic freezing out his other team mates. Can Snyder rein him in to play team basketball? If he can he'd be great with Exum and DM and Gobert. I'd give up a combination from Favors ,Hood ,and Burks and 1st draft choice if you have too BUT I'd have to have Orlando include Hezonja as well as he is blossoming now at 22 y o. .....Strike now Utah a lineup of

(C) Gobert
(PF) Gordon
(SF) Hezonja
(SG) DM
(PG) Exum
(6th man) Ingles

This would be a fast athletic offense /defense and fun to watch

Here's an interesting one - would you rather have Miles or Mikal Bridges on his rookie deal or Aaron Gordon at max?

Aaron Gordon every day of the week.........He's 22 y o and has already started 155 games in the League averaging 18 ppg and trending upwards whereas Miles and Bridges are college players having proven nothing but that they have potential.
When you have a chance to match his athleticism to players who share outstanding athleticism with him AND have NBA experience already ,then I go with what I've already seen. Hezonja is on the cheap and is blossoming right now ....Utah needs to pursue them now.

I’d rather use a pretty strong protection to get both tbh. Top 20 this year. Top 10 next year. 2nds after that. It either conveys late this year (not likely, but okay if it does) next year (most likely) or it doesn’t at all.
