Would you do 21, a 2019 1st, Burks and Bradley for,

Chandler Parsons and the 4th pick?

If Doncic is there? What if Bagley is there? JJJ?

I may be in the minority but I don’t think we’re attracting Paul George or any other top tier free agent this year or next. Knowing that and that we likely need to nail the draft again to get another stud to maybe take the next leap, I find this an interesting option.

Now, I don’t know if the Grizz would even want to do it. I think they could find a superior package. However, that doesn’t mean those other options would want to pull the trigger and the window for Gasol and Conley doing anything respectable in the playoffs is just about closed so they need to make a move now and if nothing else is on the table, they may accept that deal from us.

Would you do it though?

Memphis is probably going to want more than expirings. Their ownership is in a perpetual "win now" mode:

Because it is. Yet again, it has been said by both Grizzlies Majority Owner Robert Pera and General Manager Chris Wallace they expect a bounce back season. You want to maximize the last years of Gasol and Conley? Parsons and #4 for a much better current player would do that. The question is, SHOULD the Grizzlies do that?

But if 4 only cost that and the right player is there, you are damn straight we do that if that's what they want. That said, I think they're going to want Jingles or Royce in the deal.

It would have to be Ingles and Thabo, where we pick up his option, to match salaries. I would hate to lose Ingles, but getting a young potencial core player could be what elevates us into contender status in a couple of years.

The Griz would like a current proven player, but that player just doesn't exist if the other team has to take Parsons. Thats why our offer is solid. Just break it down:

Burks - gives Memphis much needed energy off the bench. Still young enough to maybe rejuvenate his career like Tyreke Evans did.

Bradley - young, promising big who Gasol can groom as a long term replacement. Bradley is an asset.

Jerekbo - Memphis has lacked quality depth. Jonas is good for a backup PF behind Jamychal Green.

Udoh - more quality depth. He is a good rim protector ready to immediately contribute.

#21 - this is a deep draft. They could add an immediate contributor like Grayson or Robinson or draft a prospect like Simons.

2019 1st - Memphis doesn't have a 2019 1st which is probably why they are all in win now mode.

Shedding Parsons - if they just wanted to dump Parsons' $50 over 2 years, it would take a 1st or 2. Remember, his contract is worse than Deng and Noah. LA and NY cant get rid of those guys.

If Memphis wants a player slated in the late lottery, we cant compete in this deal. If they want to get better now while getting a number of assets, we have a fair offer.

Parsons contract is so toxic the deal would have to be #4 and Parsons for Burks + filler. If we are taking Parsons then they have to put up the assets.

Hypothetical question. Suppose Memphis wanted Gobert and Doncic was there. Does Utah do Parsons, 4, and a future lotto-protected 1st for Gobs?

It seems like too small of a package for #4 but I’m always surprised at at least one deal every year, so maybe I don’t understand value very well lol.

In this case it would be okay because we would be receiving a 1st back. You just have to have at least one 1st round pick in back to back years.
And I've read even that has some possible ways around it.

Parsons contract is a disaster but I don't think you could say no to this. IMO, JJJ, Bagley, and Porter would be an amazing addition to our frontcourt (assuming we're comfortable with Porter's health).

It depends on when the FO thinks we'll hit our prime and what our plans are for 2018 and 2019 FA, because it really hampers our ability to make moves. However, the prospect of a nucleus of Rudy + Donovan + #4 pick this year heading into '20 free agency with cap room is enticing.

Yeah, Parsons signed a contract that was toxic but he’s only got two years left. If Memphis uses their tanking year to dump him (I’m inclined to think they won’t), they’ll be kicking themselves in two years when they realize that 1) they really suck and 2) he would have expired by then and 3) they don’t have [guy who was available at #4].

If JJJ is really the 6’11” stretch four who can rebound and play D, can you imagine that next to Gobert with Donovan?

Also, I would laugh when Parsons puts up 14 PPG with us and he has some actual value as a trade chip next year.

If we make the trade he would have to. Because it would gut our bench.

We’d give up Burks, Thabo, and JJ. Only JJ was in the rotation the last half of the year.

I’d give up a lot more than the proposal in the OP.
