Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (democratic socialist) wins NY primary

Asians are discriminated against, but Asians don't (overall) come from the type of economic disadvantages you see in the Hispanic and black communities. Yes, idestroyedthetoilet made a claim about poor white being denied for weathly blacks, but he never came back with statistics to verify that. I'm sure there are anecdotes that support it, but anecdotes are not data.

I appreciate that you have the sort of ignorance about the world that says "higher MCAT score" means "held to higher standard". I also understand you having the need to justify racism by referring what measures that may be devoted to ameliorating racism, and blaming them for the racism that existed long before those measures. I fully expect that, for you, this knowledge confirms all of the racial opinions you have held all along.

I have read several of Sowell's columns. His reasoning is shallow, based on an unrealistic view of the world, and self-congratulatory. I would imagine it appealed to you greatly.
Wow. Goodbye.

Oh and the opinion piece was a waste of time. Be better than that.

Lmao **** outta here with this condescension. I was just saying that there’s critique from leftist perspectives too— if the existence of leftist critique upsets you, then i rly don’t care

It didn’t really, because it didn’t answer the most important question.

Where are these jobs coming from? It quoted examples like India, which would never work here. I see ideas, I don’t see real logic in the study. I do certainly see some bias, but that’s to be expected.

I do appreciate how they said they would put it at a wage that would disqualify the participants from many welfare benefits, but I wonder how long that would last. By increasing the wages earned, you’re also increasing the poverty line. Also would imagine we see some inflation there. Wouldn’t be surprised to seen them back under welfare benefits again, tbh. Also not a huge fan of it being done by grant money. $530B a year in tax money? Yay! Hurt the middle class more.

I think at best, being optimistic, it’s hardly an upgrade over what we currently have.

JTT/Hant, it’s honestly hard to engage with “Taxes hurt the middle class!” because it shows a failure to understand that every developed country on earth that pays more taxes has a stronger middle class than the United States. Plain and simple.

BTW, here is the guy One Brpw calls shallow and unrealistic. I'm confident that his credentials put One Brow to shame:

So here's a notion that has worked..... for some.

roll outta bed in the morning and find someone who needs some help. Make an offer.....oh, like.... I'll do this and this if you pay me so.....

viola! Daily Justice in a momentarily perfect world. Do you bit every day, and you whole life will be like that.

Corporations have broken this somewhat but I'll give it a shot. I'm going to apply to all of these places that cant find any help in this hot economy. They'll tell me they start out at $9.50/hr and I'll say I'll work for $11. Theyll likely tell me corporate wont let them hire for $11 and that'll be the end of it.

Where is the supply and demand aspect anymore?

LOL, I see you still think people accept this sort of ******** as fact. Everyone knows that if you compared the higher disposable household income of rich America to the lower levels of wealthy Western European nations (extreme outlier Luxemburg excepted) that America's middle class would outperform them in these arbitrarily drawn figures. But alas, our poor are just too rich to be included in the middle class like they are in France, Germany, Finland, UK, Spain, Denmark, Norway... and our upper class is just too damn vast, paying all these taxes to transfer wealth to our poor.

Referencing his credentials is a good idea for you. Referencing his columns essays would be a bad move for you. Stick to credentials.
Handing out vague insults is a good idea for you. Referencing his columns and showing where his thinking is shallow would be a bad move for you. Stick to insults.

I consider the open borders gambit to be enabling for the corporates to depress wages. American citizen unemployed can sit at home and collect benefits because there is an abundance of illegal (and to some extent, legal) labor willing to do the work for less.

I don't know how we can really maintain a different level of prices or wages as long as there are disparate economies worldwide. It has to work out to some kind of leveling somehow, but I would prefer building up people and business "over there" to just tearing ours down.

One of the big reasons why doctors treat poor and marginalized people like **** is because they most frequently descend from wealth and privilege theswmlves.

Why? In systems where you need money to pay for tuition, and aren’t stipended to take on opportunities and volunteering that wealthier kids can take (not to mention the social and cultural capital needed for the application process), only wealthy kids generally make it through. So you’re not rewarding the “hard working”— you’re rewarding those who got the biggest head start. Meritocracy in capitalism is a total ****ing sham.

Source: I’m a medical student
Yet people in medical school can get student loans to cover pretty much anything based on the likelihood they will end up a doctor. They have loans practically thrown at them. Not having money is not as big of a road block to becoming a doctor as you make it sound. Once you pass a certain point, you are financially guaranteed to be fine, other than the years it will take to pay off those loans, which seems high but is really easier to pay off than most other degrees.

If you can get to medical school with decent grades, you are set. If you in particular are not, then you haven't tried.

Would you like to pick a column of his, or shall I? There are so many to choose from, I would hate to think I stacked the deck by choosing low-hanging fruit.

The point was that you couldn't find such criteria.

Harvard has similar disparities in it's undergraduate admissions process, and there was just a NYTimes article about the details. It seems likely that admissions to medical schools are similarly complicated. Your presentation of 'it's all about race' doesn't really hold up.

Again, there are reasons the data should be skewed in favor of Hispanics/blacks that have nothing to do with race, but few such reasons for white people.

I am interested in these reasons that data should be skewed in favor of Hispanics/blacks but not white people that also has nothing to do with race. Your sentence alone is a contradiction.

That read to me as you saying that since America's rich people have more disposable income than those of Western Europe, (and possibly the middle class as well, though you did not say that), this means the American middle class "outperforms" the Western European middle class. I'm not sure what "outperform" means here (not to claim dalamon's "stronger" was more specific).

Yeah, he has said a few times there's value in diversity and the different perspectives of certain minorities, which is why it makes sense to select them preferentially, while at the same time claiming it has nothing to do with race. I've seen some impressive mental gymnastics over the years, but this is right up there.
