Everyone who's saying BJack is clueless, like who are you comparing him or his comments to around the NBA? I don't care who the announcer is, they're going to make a few mistakes a game and miss something on the scouting report.

The Jazz are lucky to have Boler. He has great pipes and calls the play-by-play well above average. I'd place him, easily, in the top 10, possibly 5, team play callers.

Yeah, Hot Rod was amazing. I still listen to YouTube videos of him all the time just to get my fix. Again, the Jazz are lucky to have Boler. It's like having Montana, losing him and having Young follow in his foot steps. Y'all are acting like he's Steve Brown.

I think there is some grass is always greener on the other side stuff going on here, plus some i miss hot rod stuff, combined with when he says something incorrect it stands out more than all the times he totally kills it calling a game.

If Hot Rod is Montana then Boler is Jeff Garcia or Alex Smith.

I compare Boler to guys that get paid to talk about basketball... I probably listen to too many podcasts with smart basketball people and maybe my expectations are too high.

Dont forget, those guys are talking basketball not calling games.
Maybe if they had to do play by play rather than just talk basketball they would suck at it.

I would much rather listen to someone that loves and knows the game than just some baritone in a suit.

Where are the former coaches in broadcasting?

Not good at it maybe? Just cause you know the game and love the game does not equal good play by play guy imo.

Who would people consider the best national play by play for NBA? Mike Breen or Kevin Harlan would probably be it for most people. Maybe Ian Eagle.

Is van gundy considered a play by play guy? If so he is probably my favorite.

I'm OK with him, he isn't the best but also not the worst. His voice is quite soothing I gotta give him that.

Those are all safe picks and I agree they are right up there with the best of them. I'm never made when Marv Albert calls games, although I know he's pretty unlikable. I also like Dave Pacsh, Ruocco, Devlin, Burkes, Fratello, Mark Jones. I'm pretty easy going with most national guys compared to home team announcers. This is a list off the top of my head. I'm sure I'm missing a lot of people I don't mind. Not everyone listed is play-by-play too.

Guys I like who I know are hated by many too. JVG, Walton, Legler.

Guys I can't stand - Marc Jackson, Miller, Brown, Frazier (I swear he says penetration and other sexual words with emphasis on purpose lol) - local teams I hate listening to GSW, Celtics, Rockets, Kings, Blazers, Nuggets (I'm missing a few here for sure.) Teams I like - the Pelicans, Nets, Clippers, Toronto, Bucks.

I wish Beth Mowins did the NBA (I don't think she has.) She's great imo and has amazing pipes for sports.

Announcers I miss in the NBA - Hot Rod. 100% get emotional when I hear his voice. Snapper Jones - RIP, Costas, Criqui, PJ C (hate him too,) Bob Neal, Tom Tolbert, Musburger.

Basically this... it’s less about voice for me... though I get it... he’s kind of awkward and spazzy.

I like Locke and am thankful for his work... he pushes a ton of content and gets mocked a lot. He’s smart about basketball and I’m impressed with the podcast network he built.

Serious question, not just for you but also others who feel the same:
If what you want is passion and basketball knowledge and dont care about voice then why would you ever listen to boler? He seems like a horrible choice for you. On the other hand locke seems tailor made for you and is also a play by play guy who calls every jazz game.
Why dont you choose to listen to locke instead? With the technology we have today and options available i wouldnt listen to a play by play guy i didnt like if i could listen to one i do like.

I definitely prefer Locke and have tried that. I’ve found there’s a broadcasting lag, but maybe I haven’t tried it enough.

I don't mind Boler, as others have said there are plenty worse. The guys that call the Celtics games for example are terrible.

1 Kevin Harlan 2 Ian Eagle. The guy in the playoffs who called Donovan a bad bad boy is up there too.

I don’t watch games live... and I’m lazy AF. I’ll just play boler bingo and call it good.

The lag would be a good reason not to do it. Have you tried listening to locke do the play by play on the app?

LOL .. the real season can't come soon enough .. look at what we're discussing now with an official poll no less.

I didnt think of the live tv thing. Definite obstacle. As for lazy, i think you can just use an app on your phone and a bluetooth speaker if you want better sound quality.

dude you got that right. Esp Tom Heinsohn .. ffs he's like your old grandfather who hasn't played for 40 years being wheeled into the commentary studio. Clueless yet opinionated and zealously one eyed
