What's new

Pretty damn funny

Well, that old link has reference to a Jazzfanz copyright dating back to 1998. I was under the impression Arroyo brought over a lot of rabid PR fans to the board, He was signed in 2002. Wasn't the board around before then?

Wow this is terrible history. If you even look at the top banner, it says 1999. I believe I started in early 2001. I think what you’re referring to is when JazzFanz merged with realgm for a period of time, then broke back off again.
Wait, what? According to the post just above yours, Jason himself joined in July 2003. So I was only one year off. And there were only a couple people who joined before him but I'm not even sure how that was possible since it's his site. You're not one of them unless you've had a name change I don't know about. And what's this about Jazzfanz merging with realgm? I've never heard of that before.

Yes, I definitely remember the Puerto Rican invasion. So now I'm confused. I must be off in my chronology.

You created your account on May 19, 2011 (shows up below your name on a desktop computer).

The jazzfanz.com website and message board was created in 2004, I think. @Jason would know the date for sure. I became a mod in Jan 2005, and I think the board was less than a year old at the time (but I could be wrong.) The board was created after Jason and others got frustrated with the realgm board that many of us had been using prior to that. There was a substantial exodus from realgm to jazzfanz at that time. I think I myself registered for jazzfanz about 3 weeks after it was founded. (I waited for a few weeks to see if the posters I liked most were going to bail on realgm or not. They bailed.) I can't recall which people who are still here joined at that time, but speak up if you did! I think there are maybe 10 of us still around. Anyone who's been here since 2004 is truly old school.

As the last three posters have alluded to, there was a massive board crash in 2010. All data was lost. Everyone had to re-register for the site. So anyone who has a May 2010 or Jun 2010 join dates (again, visibly on the desktop site) was undoubtedly around prior to the Great Board Crash of 2010, and in my opinion also deserves to be called old school even if they aren't quite as old school as the 2003-2004 originals. :)

I had an account before that. I recreated my account in 2011, my original account was phippsj24. I was here in the Arroyo days and remember the PR influx :)

Senior moment? The memory goes first as you get old, colton.
I wasn't around; I just read some old posts about the PR invasion and how obnoxious some of those people were. Outside of HH and his unrequited love for Niang, we really don't have anyone like that...just posters who are generally annoying all the time. Did anyone join because of Allen?

I think I can ascertain my earlier days from when I was a junior in high school about, when my name may have been Shinnokxz.. around 2005 perhaps

Let's pump the brakes on joins due to locality fan stigma of players- these offshoot hobby forums have been pushed aside by team subreddits, of which /r/nba tends to be the second to third most active on the site. Those are what absorb the player bandwagons these days

Uh... take a look up in the top left. It says a Jazz community since 1999. In any case, JazzFanz was actually a website that had a forum. In that day, there was JazzFanz, JazzHoops, and RealGM. RealGM ended up expanding and JazzFanz was taken over by the RealGM umbrella, but briefly. I don’t recall when the split from RealGM happened, but that may be what you’re referring to. Also, there used to be a poster named Jon Colton, who I had always just assumed was you but realized at some point that it wasn’t, but just a coincidence.

My name has always been infection, for the most part. I posted under that name on JazzHoops but initially posted on JF as Dr. Peter Venkmen, which was later shortened to Dr., but only had that name for a couple months perhaps, before going to infection. I had met Jason at a game sometime in ‘02 or ‘03 because he lined his work buddy up with a ticket I was selling.

Yes. And I had thought that was the founding of jazzfanz. Guess not.

Yes. He and I both also used to post on the alt.sports.nba.utahjazz newsgroup (or whatever the name was), but me more than him.

Usenet? Jeez, how old are you?

1999 is when the domain was purchased. I built the original version as a school project in very late 1998. Jazzfanz existed since 1999 (banner) and did merge with realgm and then broke off. The rest seems to be documented in the thread more or less. :)

kudos to Jason for trying to put the band back together..

I haven’t posted here more than maybe 10 times in the past 18 months (WAG).
Yet I randomly get multiple “likes” all from mods on posts from years ago.. feeble attempt to reel us back in I presume.. and it worked.. at least this once.

Love y’all.

Welcome back Dr. Jones

We should include all this info on the site somewhere, maybe in a history section?
