2019 Trade Deadline Discussion

No one is really assuming, it's making educated guesses based off the remaining schedule before ASB. The Jazz are going to get to play 12 of their last 16 games at home before ASB, with a lot of them coming against inferior opponents. The Jazz should absolutely be able to take care of business against those teams.

Also I don't think this team as constructed is a championship contending team unless there's dramatic improvement across the board starting with Mitchell post ASB, but a couple of minor moves isn't going to change that either. If the trade deadline is cold on sellers I'd rather just let the team have another crack as constructed and then use draft night/the offseason to make some major moves with all the cap space we'll have, and really think about trying to contend for the following season with a hopefully improved Mitchell, a potential upgrade somewhere on the roster, etc.

I think we definitely win a bunch more games... just might not be gifted a game like the Memphis one last year where they tanked it away... or a couple of the GS ones where they didn't really try. If we have a couple more of the Atlanta type instances where we lose a game we absolutely should win then it will sting more this year because we have more good teams we have to pass in the standings. I think the way this current iteration is playing could leave us more susceptible to those disappointments.

I'm also worried that Sacramento has another move to make. I think the Wiz get desperate and dump Ariza for salary relief and Sacramento gets him for Koufos or similar expirings. I think the Clips are the only current playoff team I could see having a big decline (last year Minny and Clips faded). If Lakers have a healthy Lebron they are likely in the playoffs... we barely squeaked in and had some help and injury luck down the stretch. I see a very real chance we are the 47-48 win team left out of the playoffs... I don't think its likely but we aren't close to a sure thing.

Not a massive deal but since Justin Holiday was on one of those articles as a guy the Jazz could target figured it's relevant.

I mentioned Justin Holiday, I personally like him more than O'Neale for the reason that he actually shoots 3s, let alone makes them. Not a deal that moves the needle but depth at players that won't hurt you in the playoffs is important.

This is a smart deal by Memphis very similar to our Korver deal. They don't have a 1st round pick and have less assets than we do so they should just go for it.

Another trade target down. Wayne Ellington or Bazemore is probably up next...

Solid move for Memphis.

Wonder if the Bulls just decide to cut bait with Jabari. Would be a dumb move but their entire season has been full of dumb moves so wouldn't shock me.

they need to wait until trade deadline though... might need the salary fodder.

they could cut Cam Payne or Blakenly and likely never regret it. Hell maybe even Denzel Valentine... he's broken apparently.

Actually I forgot that they could just waive one of those guys so they probably just waive Marshon Brooks and call it a day

Poor Marshon Brooks. The guy must feel great for being the weak link which broke the Oubre deal and now easy waive trade fodder for the Bulls trade.

I've been completely against trading for Love but lately I'm starting to come around to the idea, mainly because he's one of the only targets either through trade or free agency that I think is actually realistic and getable.
