2020 Presidential election

The pardon one for sure. As for the EC, I’m hesitatingly in support. I want to hear the exact plan before getting excited
What do you mean the exact plan? The plan would be each vote counts as one vote like it should

Well, is it just doing away with the EC in presidential elections? Do they plan on messing with Senstorial representation? Basically, I don’t trust DC for ****. Show us the full proposed bill. If it’s just removing the EC for Presidential elections I’m fully in. If they mess with a bunch of other stuff, as they normally due, F that.

The full text isn't available yet, probably won't be until the middle of next week, I would expect: https://www.congress.gov/bill/116th-congress/house-joint-resolution/7

Chaos at the IRS...

And Trump claims he can build a wall by declaring a national emergency:

https://www.nbcnews.com/news/amp/ncna954856

Sen. Jack Reed, D-R.I., ranking member on the Senate Armed Services Committee, said the president's 'national emergency' plan would be a non-starter.

“Declaring a trumped up national emergency in order to skirt Congressional approval is wrong," he said in a Friday statement. "...Defense spending is for national defense, not the Trump campaign’s political wish list. I will work with colleagues on both sides of the aisle to block any attempt to take money that has been dedicated for our troops and redirect it to construction of a wasteful, ineffective wall."

I thought Mexico was going to pay for Donald’s wall. Did he lie?

So why are we permitting one man, Donald, to shut down the government and cause millions of Americans to feel its effects? I’m reading in the post that people working for TSA are calling in sick and people on food stamps are having issues getting their food due to this shutdown. That’s unbelievable. And for what? To appease Ann Coulter and Rush Limbaugh so they don’t go off and say mean things about Donnie?

If only there was a way to have like... another branch of government instead of just relying on the executive. A co-equal, branch lets say, that could “override” what the president wants. Sigh

Why didn’t the founders ever think about this?

This is a good point

However, I don’t think they’re proposing legislation to change senatorial structure. I do believe they’re proposing to do away with the EC for presidential elections to make each vote count. I think there’s a lot more support for this than we might think. As we’ve seen now for nearly 20 years, the EC system is broken. A few times now the most popular candidate has lost. It gives people in certain states a disproportionate amount of power. The EC leaves us increasingly vulnerable to Russian disinformation. Russia purposely targeted swing states knowing that exploiting on 3 swing states could turn the EC to Donald’s favor.

I think getting rid of the EC is long overdue. That and making Election Day a national holiday and getting people automatically registered.

We shouldn’t look at getting more people involved in our democracy as a bad thing. It’s up to political parties to adjust to the increased amount of voters and what they want. Not parties choosing who can vote and limiting their ability to vote due to opposing their interests.

I’ve written Lee, Romney, Wash Post and Deseret News. Its BS. Willing to shut the gov down for “years” and hurt all those Americans? America First my ***.

This isn't all on Trump, not close, he's just the figurehead. I blame this one on the Republicans just as I blamed the last big one on Democrats. All the tops of these two parties care about is retaining power. R's had two years to pass this, D's gave them much more in the past (in exchange for what? Rush, Sean, Glenn)? This is a game to these assholes. Stop responding to their polls.

You’re right. It isn’t all on Trump. But straight from his own mouth he’s willing to continue it for years. There’s no justifying that. But I blame all of them. The blame just doesn’t have to be equal.

Months or years? No chance of that.

The natives will start to get restless very, very soon...another few days.

Yeah, I know it won't last years, but just the fact he's willing to say it disgusts me. Then there's this latest tweet:

"I don't care that most of the workers not getting paid are Democrats, I want to stop the Shutdown as soon as we are in agreement on Strong Border Security!" the president tweeted. "I am in the White House ready to go, where are the Dems?"

You know what? They're all Americans first and foremost. Something that would never occur to the jerk....

They’re already getting restless. I’m hearing it ever my single day. Over and over

It’s an idiom. In it, restless really means up in arms. We’re not quite there yet imo or we’d hear more about it publicly.

I hope the government remains shut down for the rest of Trump's presidency. Would be really funny.

Trump owns this shutdown. He has no real leverage to get his wall funding so the only way this can end is if he compromises. He better start thinking up some compromises that won't look like total defeat.

It’s to late for that. Beyond his base that’ll follow him off the cliff.
