What's new

For all the haters and boo birds...

1) This is entertainment. If someone is more entertained/happier booing so be it.
2) Being a fan does not mean that you unconditionally support the actions of a team. Rather, it means that you like a team and want the best for it. If a player/coach/GM/owner is doing something that isn't good for the team, communicating disapproval in the form of booing does not make you any less of a fan of the team.
3) Don't want booing, then lower the price of a ticket! The simple truth in life is that when you pay more for something, you expect better. For example, if you buy a car for $100 and it drives, some of the speakers work, and sometimes has A/C then you will be thrilled! But, you would "boo" the crap out of the same car if you had to pay $100k.

If Joe or the team in general is supposed to be not so thin skinned about booing....doesn't that work the other way around too? Maybe some fans on here shouldn't be so thin skinned about Joe or someone else on this team making/showing their disapproval of the "fandom" playing out in the stands.

I don't get to watch the games in the arena but I'm sure if the team was sitting in my living room they wouldn't have liked my commentary :). However, what Joe said in his tweet doesn't bother me either...
Agreed.
I think players should have thinker skin and not be bothered by boos. And it doesn't hurt me that Joe said what he said either.

I won't be sending him any hatemail or tweets or anything. Still a big fan of jingles and can't wait to cheer him when I go to the game a week from today.
If they get down by 20 points on the first half against the Cavs in that game then I probably won't boo. But I won't care if others do.

I guarantee half of you didn't even listen to the podcast and are just in here spewing your filth. How about actually listen to it THEN comment??

Exactly. Perfect take.

Then no one should go to rotten tomatoes to give movies and TV shows bad reviews as it dehumanizes everyone involved in the production of those forms of entertainment.

Whether you think it is okay to boo or not is just an opinion. As such, I think it is very hypocritical of Locke to complain about how there is so much group think in the world and how we get caught up in an echo chamber, but then to be pissed off when people have a different opinion than him. How about just explaining your perspective without demonizing those that disagree with you (especially without making any attempt to understand their reasons or thought process for booing).

I admit that I didn't listen to the podcast. I also haven't commented on Locke or his podcast in this thread.
Imo I don't need to listen to something Locke says in order to have an opinion on whether booing is appropriate or not or ok or not or whatever.

Do you think listening to Locke is necessary to have an opinion about booing?

@firegirl & @NUMBERICA, what do you mean by dehumanizing them? When I boo an entertainer, I am booing their performance, not them as a person. Likewise, when I cheer for an entertainer, I am cheering their performance, not them as a person. Is this what you mean by dehumanizing? If so, why is this wrong?

What self righteous nonsense. We boo opposing teams' players until our throats bleed. But when it's our team, it's just so dehumanizing.

Don't play like *** and go down 21 in the first quarter, at home, against a terrible team, and you won't get boo'd.
Still, it's no big deal. It's just a boo. Every star player gets booed all the time on the road. Again, it's just part of playing a fun silly game for entertainment sake.

I don't think it's the same thing to boo the opposing team as booing your own team. The two feel a lot different to me.

One feels like hey we dont want you to beat our team and feels a lot more like healthy fandom. The other feels a lot like a-holes thinking they own you because they paid for a ticket and you better perform or else. Its so cringey.

The team benefits by having passionate fans. The thing with passion, though, is that it sometimes gets expressed in less-than-ideal ways. Pro athletes should know this, and should also be pro at expecting and dealing with it.
Naw players should always be praised, told how wonderful they are all the time and worshipped. A few boos hurts their precious fee fees and ego too much :(

Calling a player trash is fine though. Lol

Locke is very good at throwing a hissy fit and acting condescending to fans, especially when they disagree with him. He definitely sees himself above fans. Very dehumanizing of him.

I would assume the concept of ‘dehumanization’ arises when one views this through the lens of owners being slave masters and the players being plantation workers. Thus, Joe Ingles represents the plight of a struggling minority, while the guy taking his daughter to a game represents a pillaging tyrant who leaves destruction in his wake, and views players as beasts of entertainment, free to be expended at his leisure. While the people living paycheck to paycheck are surrogates for the oppressive ruling class, the millionaire players become a symbol of systemic oppression, and the fans carry out their lust for desiring to subjugate individuals through sublimation in ways that are cloaked in social acceptability.

Utah fans look like complete whiny babies when they go out of their way to boo players years after the fact. I don't care for Enes at all but booing the way we did the entire game is childish. If you have to do it feel good the first game back - ie Hayward - and if it makes you feel better than OK. But get over it and move on. Really bush league.
