What's new

Start Mitchell at the Point.

Mitchell is shooting 32.6% from 3 this season.

Rubio is shooting 33.7%.
Really? Rubio shoots that percentage on wide open threes. Mitchell shoots that percentage even though he often has to beat the shot clock and he probably has one miss a game from half court "just give it a chance" threes.

This comparison really should never be made.

Not to mention he was shooting 29% just last week. Also, teams dare Rubio to shoot threes, that’s not the case for DM. Rubio is basically a spot up shooter from three. Mitchell is coming off screens, step back, off the dribble and so forth.

. He will struggle against more talented teams this year, but he's learning to slow down and let the game come to him at PG.

Plus he was already struggling at shooting guard this year too. So was the team btw.

Sure he will have struggles at point guard. He is a 2nd year player and will have struggles at either position.
I think that the jazz will be better with a point guard that can shoot running the position.

What he should have said is that he is sick of defenses not defending our point guard when Rubio is playing the position.

It’s funny how guys on here let their butt cheeks do the flapping. I know it’s a small sample size but Mitchell has played better at pg. I feel it’s his natural position

Just like there’s more than one way to skin a cat, there’s more than one way to play pg. we’ve never had an attacking pg before.

A large majority of Mitchell's 3s are open or wide open.

He takes 6.8 3's a game. 84% of his shot attempts are open or wide open looks. 37% are wide open.

.1 are tightly contested (0% made)

1.0 are contested (21% made)

3.2 are open (34% made)

2.5 are wide open (36% made) (Rubio makes 37% of these, so Rubio shoots better than Mitchell on wide open shots)

He shoots 1.9 three per game in the last 7 seconds of the shot clock. Rubio shoots 1 in the last 7 seconds.

Rubio shoots 35% on catch and shoot 3's. Mitchell shoots 31%. Both attempt 2.9 per game.

Biggest difference there is respect from defenses and the spacing. Guys respect and defend Mitchell, go over screens, etc.

Spacing is terrible with Rubio even when he's hitting because guys don't guard him out there, they go under screens, etc.

They go over screens when he starts hitting shots. A lot of the defense for the past month have been going under.

If Exum continues his strong play, then Rubio is outta here (unless he’s had on a cheap contract).

Rubio is a tough one to think about— I wonder if this team as presently constituted (but with Tobias Harris instead of Favors) is enough to submerge the warriors.

Rubio takes 100 years to get his shot off and struggles finishing at the rim... defenses pay him very little attention off ball and are not likely all that scared when he has the ball in his hands.

DM is a threat with the ball and collapses the defense... add an actual shooter next to him and driving lanes and roll lanes will open up more frequently... Ricky can make shots but needs too much room and time which allows defenses to play further off him.

DM is the best answer we have to the pg issue imo... I think it is more his natural position and he can be more effective on defense guarding guys that are smaller than him rather than guys that are bigger than him. If we find a pg that can shoot, is 6’5” or bigger, and can create his own shot then sure let’s play DM more as a sg... giving DM pg responsibility seems to have made him chuck less and it makes some sense. As a sg he gets the ball less and thinks his role is to put the ball in the basket... as a pg he feels he needs to create for others. Him being less aggressive about shot hunting doesn’t mean he will attack less or be less aggressive overall.

Let’s give it a few games... but we are all loving what we are seeing this far.

OL it’s simple. Exum is the new started PG
Not quite...

Exum is shooting 30.5% from 3's this year. O'Neal is shooting 38.6%. It's simple, I'd rather have a better 3pt shooter on the floor. Defensively I think they're pretty much comparable.

Also I'd much prefer DM having the ball in his hand more.
I don't think the answer is Exum or O'Neale , or Rubio for that matter. I think the answer is for Lindsey to open up that fat wallet he has and buy the Jazz a starting wing. Then you have Mitchell at the 1 with player X and Ingles. Doesn't matter what position (SF/SG) the free agent (or player obtained via trade) plays as Ingles can be at the 2 or 3.

Exum needs to be a backup until he can shoot the 3 consistently. He and Neto are competent PG's. It's time to thank Bricky for time served and move on.

I would prefer the jazz start O’Neale at sg and sign Niko or Harris. In my perfect world, that’s what I want, or add offense to come off the bench. I like the idea of O’Neale starting next to Mitchell. Mitchell really seems to open things up for his boy O’Neale.

Estaré muy feliz cuando muchos de los que odian este foro tengan que comer Rubio con papas el próximo año y tengan una mala digestión; personas que cambian de un día a otro lo que dicen, dependiendo de cómo fue el juego; ignorante
