2019 Trade Deadline Discussion

Cap space in Free agency is of very little concern to me. The Jazz dont chase FAs often and will almost always get outbid or have a better market team make an offer. Any single player we get eliminates us from chasing FA. We dont have that much cap space and if we sign any PG including Rubio we wont have any cap space.

His age is concerning to me. His play is not. He has been very solid for a long time and a great 2 way player. He can pass, shoot, create, and is a great teammate. All-star game appearances is not a indicator for how good a player is to me.
K but you’re going to say he is an elite player and he can’t ever make an all NBA team?

I’m not saying players have to be that, but Conley isn’t an elite player.

There is more you can do with cap/flexibility than using it in free agency.

Conley would give us two really good years if we’re lucky, right as Mitchell’s deal is due, then the Jazz have nowhere to turn but luck in finding other stars.

The improvement in offense vastly outweighs the loss in defense.

Jabari Parker can’t get regular minutes on the ****ing Bulls after the team that tanked to get him basically waived him. After 2 ACL tears. And he is fat, and entitled, and proud that he doesn’t play or even value defense.

Harris is an all-star candidate.

You are completely off.

Have you watched them both play on defense recently? Harris is not a good defender. Jabari puts in more effort on that end of the court. He isnt proud of not playing defense, he was solid in the playoffs defensively last year and puts in effort. People on here took his statements completely wrong.

I agree that Harris is much better but how much better at 30+ million is he compared to a few million.

I think we drop off a decent amount defensively, we rebound worse, and the improvement on offense is not that significant. I dont see him as a 3rd star that puts us over the edge and is not a max contract player that people want to pay him.

Favors would be playing 15-18 mpg (same with Crowder, if not less) with OPJR on the team. The Jazz need a PG from somewhere else if they trade Rubio and it doesnt make sense for the Wizards to give us Sato.

I think it'd be pretty easy to get both Favors/Crowder into the low 20's. Slight decrease for Crowder, but about where Favors is at now. Mainly cutting Royce/Korver's minutes at the 3.

Ingles 32/Crowder 16
Porter 32/Favors 8/Crowder 8
Gobert 32/ Favors 16

Guard rotation would obviously be thinner, but I think the Mitchell/Exum/Royce/Korver crew could handle it.

I honestly believe that the Jazz "interest" in Conley is a smokescreen and they are trying to drive up the price for another team in order to lose a competitor for the guy they really want.

I believe the Jazz are interested in Harris, OP Jr. and Mirotic, probably in that order and would pull the trigger on whichever one comes with a reasonable offer.

Now watch them walk away with Dennis Smith Jr. . . .

I think he is a top 10 PG in the NBA right now, whether that is elite or not to you is arbitrary. I think he is even better in our system. He is a better shooter, creator, and defender than Rubio. I am concerned about his decline though.

A 50/40/90 guy that scores >20 ppg at the position where shooting is most valuable, in your mind=
-hardly means anything
-is not worth a max
-is virtually the same player as the disgraced Jabari Parker

What a waste of time this was.

I would prefer to chase Otto, Blake Griffin, Mirotic, Aaron Gordon over Harris. I would rather see Jabari on a vet min over Harris on a max. I might prefer Gallinari over Harris for his contract and play right away. Saric and Roco if they were available would be better choices as well to me.

If I knew for sure Harris would come, I'd probably choose to do nothing and sign Harris in free agency. I do think he is very good and can get better, and I think he can be a lot better defensively in Utah. I don't agree at all that he is as bad/unwilling a defender as Parker. I think he's probably like bottom 35-40 percentile and can probably be average in a good system.

That does not play defense, takes plays off, and is a poor rebounder.

Also he isnt a 50/40/90 player and I dont think that position is the most important for shooting. I think PG/SG/SF are all more important for shooting.

No, he is not virtually the same player as Jabari. He is better than Jabari but I think Jabari still has a lot of upside. ALso Harris at max compared to Jabari at a vet min or even MLE type deal is what I am comparing. If money was equal Harris would be an easy choice. We could still chase a big name with Jabari. With Harris we are set for big contracts and cant get anyone else.
