2019 Trade Deadline Discussion

If we get Conley, gotta move for Niko. I’m sure multiple teams would offer up second rounders but I’m not sure how we could land him. Give two seconds and Bradley.

What about Salary? How we gonna do anything with Conley's salary?

It sounds like we are trying to keep Favs out of the Conley deal... so maybe we have another trade lined up for Favs, but if not I think Niko is not happening.

I think Conleys offense lowers the need for Niko. Crowder and favors would be fine in that scenario. If he comes cheap then sure. Salary wise it would have to be Thabo Udoh and Bradley.

Nooooo, trading for Conley allows us to KEEP Favors, who is the far better player. Imagine a starting 5 where Jingles is the 5th option. . .

Though Conley makes Favors easier to keep, you’ve gotta think beyond the next year. And though Conley improves our offense, we still need another option that Mirotic would allow. I think getting Niko mitigates a lot of the risk I’m a Conley trade. We’ll still need another good player and getting Niko could be 3/4 of that.

Yup, getting his bird rights is the only way to keep him in free agency. If Favors has to be traded, I'm a bit concerned for depth at the C.
A bit concerned? I'd be extremely concerned. If we lose Favors they need a PF/C coming back. I've never been sold on Nico, but does he play C? Can he play C on defense for the Jazz? The Jazz funnel players at the C position.

He can't. I was thinking of one more piece coming via trade or getting someone from waivers. A "bit" was an understatement. We need a big who can run the pick n'roll with Conley besides Rudy. I cringe at the idea of Udoh (if he stays) playing 12min a night

The fact that Ricky is a FA this year and could leave to take more money than the Jazz want to pay means the Jazz could be stuck without a good PG. They're motivated to make this deal not only to improve the team, but ensure we have a quality PG for the next two seasons.

In other words, there's a scenario where they're in a real pinch if they don't make a deal for Conley.

If we did Rubio and Exum for Conley, how much cap space would we have this summer should we renounce/opt out of anyone of whom we’re able?

Which is precisely why we’d need to get Niko now.

What if Niko does not get an offer higher than MLE this year? What is his current market? Unless he plays really well last 30 games I'm not sure he gets the 15-20M we think he might get. Hard to see the team that would definitely offer that amount right now. MLE starts around 9M next year... 4/40 seems low for him but that is the type of deal I'd obvi want to get him on... anyone going 4/60? 4/50?

Say he gets traded to Philly and doesn't fit in or he is in and out of the lineup with injuries... I don't think it's crazy.

Right, defenders won't sag off Conley like they do with Rubio.

If it was up to me I'd just play DM at the 1 and have Exum/Neto off the bench. Think when healthy that is fine.

I don't think Ricky has a very robust market this offseason and that he'd gladly stay if we were in the same salary range.

I think Minnesota might take him back. Teague has really slipped. Kokoskov might like him in Phoenix. Orlando needs a PG to give that team a direction. Teams that want him may offer more than the Jazz want to pay. It's a legit risk.
