2019 Trade Deadline Discussion

This is a good assessment. The jazz motto is "slow and steady is fiscally sound".
To be fair, if I am choosing between 1) Fiscally sound approach which is not likely to lead to a championship but guarantees the team is in Utah or 2) a risky approach that guarantees a ring, but opens a 5% chance of the team moving... I will take approach #1.

The Millers unfortunately are in a league with owners like Paul Allen, Steve Balmer, Mark Cuban. So I get the caution.

Kevin O' Conner said the memphis deal was Bismack/MKG/1st for Gasol... I saw that the rumor was Monk was in the deal.

So here's the deal... The Bismack/MKG deal would throw Memphis into the luxury tax... the deal we have proposed for Conley gives them 4-5M in room. We can help facilitate, save some money and Memphis can get a 1st from charlotte, us, houston (Knight for Temple/Green). We could also do a separate deal to take Mack or someone into an exception... but the gap in salary this year helps them with their other deals - charlotte and Houston won't want to take on additional money because of tax and tax line issues - something Memphis can't do as of right now because it throw them in the tax.

Memphis is clearly a messed up situation front office wise... so who knows what they do... but if they only have a few bad deals and collect 3 firsts that should get them started with the rebuild.

I kinda feel like our goose is cooked. Now free agency is irrelevant. I’ve kept saying get what you can get when you can get it, because the landscape changes quick. My assumption is we don’t get Conley and we take the “grass is always greener in the future” approach and end up having to re-up our same guys.

I’d be looking to move for Niko, Jabari, Lou Williams, and Beverley.

We are good man... if we really want Conley we can make the extra asset push with a first or Exum (apparently). I don't think we have to. Niko is available in FA if all else fails and his value has plummeted imo.

I think some of those things are desert mirage arguments though... the same ones we've made about even Niko... "we can get him for seconds," then "we can sign him in the summer," then "we can trade for him at the deadline when they move AD," then "we can sign him in the summer."

I still think you go hard after Harris in the offseason. He's going to be the 4th banana in PHI, but does he want that? A place like Utah is going to allow him more opportunity to shine IMO.

They will utilize like 75% of his game... they have 4 guys that all have or can be a primary scorer on a good team... working together may prove difficult... also Simmons and Butler are buttholes and Embiid is a big personality that can rub people the wrong way (or not... maybe they will be besties). The can roll out the 4-5 year max and may have regrets midway through next season... we can get him then too. It isn't dead unless we kill our space... it was always a low chance of happening.

Yeah, we can definitely help Charlotte and Memphis with their deal:

Hornets get Gasol and either Rubio or Favors

Jazz get Conley and Marvin

Griz get Biyombo, Monk, Thabo, Charlotte 1st, Utah 2nds and either Favors or Rubio

I don't think we should have to give up a 1st if we take Marvin too.

New Hot take: I would trade Ingles for Harris, and might even throw in a sweeter to make it happen.

Harris fits our timeline better, and would be a great pairing with PG Donovan.
Nuggets probably wont't want Ingles. Ingles’s got an overpriced contract and is too slow for their system. They need the money to keep Beasley and Morris. As deep as their roster is, Ingles probably won't be their 7 or 8th man in the rotation. It's harsh but true. Look up Malik Beasley and Torrey Craig’s performance against the Rockets. And then check, well, the Jazz whole team highlights against the Rockets a day after, to see why Nuggets is the 2nd best team in the West.

Also, if Exum really gets the deal done (not sure, just saying), then WTF? It wasn't but 2 months ago we were talking about ways to trade him for cap space.

Those were all real possibilities imo... the problem is it only takes one ******* to overpay. Sometimes that ******* doesn't show up. I'm 75%-80% sure something happens.

DL values him a lot more than you or I... I would do it and view Exum as a potentially mildly negative value contract. Then he played well for 10 games and we all got excited... then he got hurt... yada yada.

Send'em whatever they want. Favors + Korver for Lyles and Harris. When was the last time a trade with Denver didn't work out?

Just go get Niko or Lou Williams and Beverley. F these guys.

1- I don't consider Kevin an insider... not sure he really knows more than Larsen and Jones... almost sure he doesn't
2- This isn't the price going up imo... slc dunk is fun sometimes but those guys are dumber than half the posters on this board when it comes to trades and trade value etc.
