We could sell Exum for a second rounder, then drop Favors and resign him at 4 year with the first year at 12.5 with max increases every year. (14.5 if we could somehow dump Bradley.) We lose Rubio, Thabo, and Udoh, which (besides Rubio) we may be able to bring back with exceptions. Korver is a tradeable contract as well.
We’d have to be the one giving up the second rounder to move Exum. Maybe a couple of them.

You aren't getting an RFA on a discount. You have to massively overpay if you want a team to give up rights to a promising young player. And, even then, 19 times out of 20, the team with the rights will still match.

We'd have to get something back. Exum at 10 million really isn't that big of an albatross. Someone would jump on that if all they had to give was a second.

If Exum had that little value, Memphis would not have insisted on getting him in the Conley trade.

We would still have the "room" exception which is something like 4.5 million (which we could split up if we wanted.) If we found a way to trade for Conley before July, I think, we would not drop below the cap and all salary can options would be available. Just have to check when Rubio's contract ends. The Jazz are generally pretty cagy about the start dates of their contracts for this reason, if I remember correctly.
I think his value then and his value now are two separate things.

This is a dream signing for Utah. I don't expect it to happen but if it did....I mean that is a legit title contender. Especially if you think about how KD is likely to leave the Warriors, thus evening out the playing field quite a bit.
Not only does Donovan get more space to work with...but so does Kemba. Charlotte's roster is all trash besides Kemba, so he would get more clean looks as well.
Let's also not forget that BOTH of these guys can
1: Go off huge on any given night.
2: Work incredibly well with such a great screen setter like Rudy.
DM+Rudy+Kemab=Our big three, and that's not counting our depth, unity and last but definitely not least...our coaching. I'm dead serious when I say that getting Kemba takes us to the WCF if not the NBA finals

It appears Rubio is a standard contract, we cannot treat him as an expiring for a draft day trade. We won't have access to all of the exceptions unless we resign everyone.

He was injured at the trade deadline, and is injured now. Why would his value suddenly drop?
It's an albatross when you have cap-space, which, hey, the Jazz will have and they knew they'd have.
A team absorbing Exum's money without sending anything back will be in the same situation. The Jazz are not receiving assets AND saving $20 million.
Acquired another injury that seems even more bewildering and more serious than the one he had at the time.
I've totally given up on getting rid of Exum. If the Jazz want to retain Favors and go shopping with the max, they'll have to violate the CBA/have a wink-wink deal where they let him go, re-sign him with what they would have left BEFORE using that lump sum, then giving him a payback on the next deal.
Or you just let everyone walk *shrugs*. I'm back on with Favors to a degree, but not enough to forfeit a chance at adding a better piece/fit.

A) I doubt we could trade Exum for a second rounder given his salary and his injury history
B) There is no way Favors signs for 12.5 million in first year
A) That was before yet another serious injury
B) We don't actually know that Memphis was insisting on Exum. As far as I know that's just a rumor which has never been confirmed. (I could be wrong)
I really think Exum + his contact has negative value right now. (I could be wrong)
You simply cannot get him and keep our depth.
That's not to say the Jazz should not try to sign him. It may be the right thing to do. But it will come at a cost.

There is a way to sign a guy like Kemba and keep Favors. It can be done in a couple of ways and both require that we get rid of Exum without taking any money back. Rubio, Sefolosha and Udoh will be released. Ricky will find a new team and the other two could be picked up via exeptions later in the off season if we are interested in that.
If Favors wants to stay in Utah to try to compete with this team, we can turn down the team option and offer him something like a 4 year deal starting at $10 million a year. When this deal is signed, his cap moves down to $10 million. With Exum gone and replaced by a roster hold for cap purposes, our cap space is $32,7 million, which is almost excactly what Kemba can earn with 30% of a $109 million cap.
The other way is to just pick up Favors` option and trade Korver or Crowder, which would cut into our depth.
